So I'm 59, single, flirting on a dating website with a cute and seemingly kind middle aged lady who seems to have a big wound about being hurt by men in the past.
She texts me about her disillusionment with this dude she just started dating. She provides a few links.

Yes, a Texas Republican mayor who faces 30 years in prison for aggravated identity theft. I would have told her to not date Republican men, but it sounds like he hid it.
Any gratuitous dating advice would be helpful. After sending $30,000 Bitcoin to save three different princesses from Somalian pirates, I'm starting to get which are the fake profiles. Lol.

My ex husband was a repuke but I wasnt political then. He turned out to be a real a hole.
Luckily, Im married to a die hard Democrat like myself!

(12,132 posts)the one before the last one was a Russian lady he found on a dating site and he spent like 50k going back and forth from here to russia before bringing her over. Then when she finally came over and they got married it lasted about a week.
I don't know how a guy could be as smart as he is and dumb too. (He owns his own business and made good enough money that it wasn't tooo inconvenient for him to spend money on a Russian Bride.)
That was long before pandemic times though - maybe 15 years ago. He's still going through a nasty divorce from number 5 but that's the only one with a kid involved.

(9,273 posts)Recently divorced and, to his credit, was looking for a relationship, not just fun. He used to tell me all about his dates and search for a girlfriend. He went on one date, had a great time and was shocked that she turned him down for a second date - because she found out hes a Republican. After he left the office my co-worker (also female) and I both said instant dealbreaker!

(3,557 posts)I mostly just look, but I do find some interesting women from time to time.
After having sex for the first time with one woman I met, she asked me if I minded if she smoked. I knew she didnt smoke cigarettes so I figured she was going to either smoke pot or vape cbd or something. Instead she pulled out a crack pipe and asked me if I wanted to party. Perhaps Im weird here, but I turned down her offer of free crack and got out of there.
Anyways, I have seen many women flat out say that they will not date republicans in their profile. I have that in my profile too.

Some people are into dating assholes and the wrong types.
Then they wonder why the relationship failed, or complain about all of the conflicts to other people.
I've seen people who need to be in fractured relationships because they like the drama it causes--of course, everyone in their sphere is sick and tired of hearing about all of the gripes and trauma, but struggle though it because they are family or close friends. If only they knew the pain it causes everyone else to hear this crap every week.

(32,748 posts)Last year I was at my high school reunion and ran into a guy who was long-time divorced, as I am. We had a lot of things to talk about and a lot of flirting to catch up on. He told me he's a retired social services professional - and bingo, I knew I was in love.
There's no one - no man or woman - who can work for their full career in the dept. of social services and then go to the polls and vote republican. I didn't have to ask this guy if he's a Democrat because I already knew. I told him that I'm a lifelong liberal, and he just had this big smile on his face.

(3,333 posts)I'm starting to date an amazing professor - kinda dance therapy and theatrical movement for actors - world renowned. Of course she's liberal. She's a little older than me, looks a little older than her profile photos, but she's winning me over with her transcendent interpersonal skills. She's way out of my league. I go around to nursing homes where I sing, play the keyboard, and tell jokes. This lady's working with movie directors and AI scientists.
