Are the fact that shes incredibly unqualified, has bad policy positions, and legit seems not that bright. They have nothing to do with her being trans and taking potshots at her for that (misgendering or deadnaming her) is wrong and counterproductive.

(22,056 posts)Here's my take: It's going to be fun watching Republicans contort themselves into supporting a transgender candidate.

(7,820 posts)I would like to say California is smarter than this, that she wont get elected... but, well, we did elect the Governator... celebrity candidates definitely have an appeal.

(38,334 posts)His character flaws are on par with many major politicians of both parties.
However bad a governor Schwarzenegger was it amused me to see him crush Darrell Issa who'd spent $2 million of his own money funding the Davis recall, hoping to be the next governor himself.
Mainstream Republicans like Issa or Tom McClintock might have done a lot more damage to the state than Arnold did.
The recall itself was fraudulent, meant to cover up the California electricity crisis which was created by Enron and other energy traders, many of the same players responsible for the catastrophe in Texas this past winter. These assholes essentially stole $40 - $45 billion dollars from California residents.
You'd think people would learn, but then we got Trump...
Although, I think they have gone past the point where they have any true angst about their hypocrisy such that contortion is possible. They don't care how blatantly they confirm their intent to destroy the country.

(3,406 posts)Whatever gets them in power is good for them, if they have to dance with a transgender at a party to boost her popularity, they will do it, they will kiss her hand if they must.
republicans are such crappy people with no morals, principles, no dignity, they will do anything to take power. One of them may even offer to marry her, if they see that will work for them.

This time there is nobody else.
And Schwarzenegger ended up being a horrible governor so people remember that.

(17,865 posts)It is frankly insulting that people vote for individuals for Senator, Governor, or President that have no prior public service experience. At a minimum they should have been a staffer at the state or federal level or held a state office of some sort (state Representative/Senator or statewide position like AG).
I give a like bit of break for US Representatives since these are two year terms, but I still would like to see some prior relevant experience.

(7,820 posts)It matters, not because of her, but because of the message it sends to and about other trans people. There are plenty of ways to call her out that dont attack for her trans identity.

(16,685 posts)When Republicans are terrorizing trans people in legislatures across the country her hypocrisy in running as a Republican is astounding and nauseating.

(50,314 posts)It really should be, and hopefully will be, moot. Newsom should absolutely not be recalled. Hes done a really good job navigating an awful situation, and his approach had helped keep this pandemic from raging completely out of control here.

(16,685 posts)It will further inflame the ant-trans sentiment on the march across the country... putting more people in danger. By running on the ticket of a party that is blatantly and savagely anti-trans she is personally responsible for further stoking this hatred.
She is a tone-deaf, supremely self-centered, privileged scumbag... isolated from the effects of her actions

(11,578 posts)We need to move past the idea that people with no government background or experience can somehow successfully administer and manage the eighth largest economy in the world. It takes much more than celebrity and hubris to be the governor of California.

(90,848 posts)IIRC there is some woman in Hollywood known only for her selfie billboards (what else can I call them when she pus them up herself?) Angelyne I think. Anyway, she got on the ballot, along with a whole lot of other non-politicians who had no shot at winning and they knew it. It was bloody marvellous how they muddied the waters and split the votes up.
I do not like the recall initiative. I do not trust it. I think it is yet another GOP cheat, to deprive Democrats of offices they hold by election.
