(18,402 posts)There is no such thing as best. There are just different kinds of great.
Im always bewildered by people who ask Whats your favorite ... movie, book, food, song, color. I have no single favorite anything, just many remarkable things that I admire or enjoy at different times in different contexts, and its impossible to compare them, because if theyre great they are unique, and thus incomparable. Maybe its just me.
I think Frances McDormand deserved this, as would have Viola Davis. I admired both performances. But you cant compare them.
As for people disappointed that Chadwick didnt win ... honestly, I have to say it was justified. I didnt think the role was in the right category anyway: it was really a supporting actor role.
I didnt see The Father, but I saw all the others. And my personal pick would have been Riz Ahmed. But honestly, it doesnt matter.

(41,991 posts)I love Chadwick Boseman and that role was incredible. But you cant watch The Father and say he didnt deserve it.

(41,991 posts)I loved Viola Davis. She was great. But she didnt carry the film. Francis McDormand carried that entire remarkable film on her back. She was literally the only actress in the film. And she was wonderful, in a new kind of role.

(7,286 posts)totally agree, I was stunned when I saw that film. Had no idea what is about before seeing it the first time.
She blew me away, even all of the real people (non actors) blew me away. the way the story line was treated and depicted was remarkably well done.

(32,756 posts)And I agree that Viola Davis is wonderful and deserving of a best actress Oscar.
Frances is also deserving, especially in this role in Nomadland.
Why can't they both win?
