PoliticoI dont think the American public is interested in having the Supreme Court expanded, said Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.).
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), who represents a particularly valuable swing state, said the more responsible thing to do is to keep it at nine justices. And Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) said she opposes adding seats that politicize the court.
That trio is facing reelection in 2022, making their opinions particularly important to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). But as Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) formally pushes for high court expansion, resurfacing the popular progressive cause in response to the GOPs relentless drive to fill court seats during the Trump years, its clear that few of Markeys colleagues agree with him.

(2,852 posts)Might not be quite as self-evident as you proclaim:
"Both sides of the political spectrum have accused Politico of either having a left or right bias. For example, Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog group in Washington, has accused them of having a 'Republican tilt.'

IIRC, Charlie Pierce refers to Politico as "Tiger Beat on the Potomac."
And Charlie's been doing politics for a while.

(4,965 posts)And "Tiger Beat on the Potomac" would have more to say about the quality of their journalism than their political slant. Which I'm not arguing at all.
Media Bias Chart gives a pretty unbiased rating of sources, as well.

(52,166 posts)and because of that, liberal governance will become nearly impossible. Once Chevron falls, and fall it will, then Congress won't be able to pass any forward thinking legislation at all. Add in that abortion rights, LGBT rights, and gun regulations will be dead letters under this court. It is quite galling that in my lifetime we have won the popular vote in 76, 92, 96, 00, 08, 12, 16, and 20 while losing it in 68, 72, 80, 84, 88, and 04 but the justices appointed in that time frame have been 15 GOP and 4 Dem. Despite winning the popular vote a majority of the time we didn't even appoint 1/4 of the justices. And because of that I will die a fourth or fifth class citizen.

(21,405 posts)is going to do a lot of damage to our country. The thing about controlling the Supreme Court is that the GQP doesn't even have to control the presidency or Congress to make policy.

(7,286 posts)Of course there are and will be some disagreement which is quite normal, and natural. a lot to discuss and think through.
But please, let's not play up "divisions" over stuff that needs to be hashed out as if it meant the death of progress.
I don't understand the point of giving props to a journal that traffics in bs for the sake of clicks.

(16,126 posts)it is logical to increase it to 13, as we have 13 circuit courts.
Raising it to 18 or 26 would allow for two panels to run at the same time, which would be more efficient as there were only about 32 million people in 1869 and there are 328 million now, which means more cases to decide.
