'Radicalized' GOP And 'Twisted People' On Fox News Called Out In Damning New Ad

05/01/2021 02:54 am ET

“Reject these poisonous voices,” urges the new spot from progressive PAC MeidasTouch.

By Lee Moran

Progressive PAC MeidasTouch calls on people to reject the “radicalized” GOP ― and spotlights the harmful influence that personalities on right-wing media such as Fox News can have on Republicans ― with its latest viral ad.

The narrator in the 90-second spot released online Saturday notes how the alienated worldwide “are drawn to extremist leaders promising to take on the enemies of their people.”

“In America, some of our lost souls respond in a similar way to the call of influential voices,” he continues. “But instead of militant preachers or radical clerics, every single night in America they can listen to our own angry advocates of division and conspiracy” on right-wing media.

Fox News’ prime-time host Tucker Carlson, for example, has in recent weeks pushed white supremacist rhetoric, downplayed the deadly U.S. Capitol riot and sowed doubt about COVID-19 vaccines.

what do they think talk radio does every day, all day? fox can't do what they do without 15 hrs a day of unchallenged repetition from 1500 coordinated radio stations. at $1000/hr, 1200 radio stations x 15 hrs/day are worth $90M/week or about $5B/yr. all that is completely unchallenged.

if dem and progressive orgs stopped ignoring talk radio we wouldn't have a 1/4 of this crap. political and media analysts can't be expected to listen to that crap but they don't even poll for it. and now they could use AI to record, transcribe, and analyze it automatically

The last several years, we have a few family members who are big Trumpers and they LOVE talk radio, they listen all day at work and even tune in on their days off. I have always maintained that is it a form of brainwashing them.

Just like we write entire states off. It's a losing strategy that we still seem committed to.

We have some sharp, funny people on our side. I wish our billionaires would buy up some radio stations, hire some top notch writing talent, & challenge the lies of right wing radio with facts & humor. Not everyone wants to listen to hate & fear, but our side is crickets.

and analyze it so people can monitor it and finally include it in the analysis.

and using AI to do a stoprush x 100 - no listening necessary

and getting 87 university and a lot of pro sports off 260+ rw radio stations

the the ad industry will kill the monopoly to keep those advertisers

until then we might as well be studying fish without the water

Maddow, Sam Seder, Garofolo, Franken, Hartmann and more. But it was hard to find advertisers who essentially wanted to raise their own corporate taxes. So it became a money pit for investors.

I'm all for doing it again, though. Maybe just ads on RW shows, so we aren't preaching to the converted. It might be worth giving RW stations a little ad revenue if we could refute their lies.

Also, if one simly has a show, it really isnot going to complete effectively with people who have shows which are syndicated. That's a huge can of worms right there.

It barely got off the ground and was starved to death. Only carried by problem outlets with lousy signals, crappy "promotion," and anemic spot loads. They couldn't catch a break and they failed.

But ol' Limbaugh blazed away with seemingly everybody giving him a monster megaphone and throwing money at him.

MISERABLE.

In L.A., limbaugh was carried on KFI - 50,000 watt AM powerhouse, bombing in on your car radio from above Santa Barbara to down below the Mexican border.

Air America wound up on a little station with a tenth that wattage. A small, low-profile station with a really shitty signal station. It could barely get out of the San Fernando Valley.

in areas that are totally blue is common. one station familiar to me they phased in local 'liberals' over shultz, rhodes, hartman, who then couldn't attract the advertisers so they switched to business talk and then eventually back to rw hannity, limbaugh etc - in one of the most liberal areas in the country

Right-wing talk radio has been around for decades and it is everywhere! When I travel across the country by car and look for a radio station to listen to I always come across some right-wing talker screaming about how "the Libs" are ruining the country. They all make the same talking points and call every progressive initiative "Marxist". It's like they are all reading from the same script. It's next to impossible to find a liberal talk show host or even one who is moderate! They are all fire-breathing, hard-core right-wingers. It's insane. They have poisoned the minds of millions of Americans. They are the reason fascism is rising in this country. We really need to make a huge effort to have our own radio talk shows to counter their BS.

on those stations that dominate so many state level elections once in a while and hear the bullshit they would stop ignoring what's been kicking their ass for 30 years..

limbaughs death is a major event for trump and the GOP and the russian ops that have been influencing talk radio and dedms needd to take advantage of it.

that's why the GOP is falling apart. by recognizing the cause they can make the manchin peripheral - he's responding to the fucking dittoheads

He has been scrunching up that Mr Potatohead face and "wondering about" extremist RW views in the most insincere, transparent way for years now. It's only gotten worse with his added gravitas imparted by the long tie.

I used to half-expect his bow tie to start twirling, like something Soupy Sales would have done.
