Former President Donald Trump has retained attorney Jesse Binnall as his counsel in the Jan. 6 MAGA riot lawsuit brought by two Capitol police officers, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.
Binnall will represent Trump in a suit brought by officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby in late March. The suit alleges that then-President Trump had inflamed, encouraged, incited, directed, and aided and abetted and insurrectionist mob to attack the Capitol Police on Jan. 6, leading to injuries suffered by the two men.
Blassingame and Hembys suit accuses Trump of incitement to riot and directing, aiding, and abetting assault and battery, among other charges. The two men say they suffered injuries to their heads, necks, and backs from assaults by the rioters and continue to struggle with the emotional toll of having been overwhelmed by the rioting mob that day.
The suit is now the third lawsuit against Trump related to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, in which Binnall is representing Trump and marks his ascent as the twice-impeached former presidents go-to lawyer for handling Trumps myriad post-presidency legal problems stemming from the Jan. 6 riot.

If youre a GOP Member of Congress you owe it to your constituents to disclose if you voted to support Cheney. If you dont, they should assume you support her.

(8,845 posts)U.S. Taxpayers don't have to foot the bill for all these lawsuits? After all, Trump technically was still in office when this happened!
If Trump has to hire them out of his own pocket, they better get their money in advance with a major retainer.......
It makes me wonder about Trump sweating the arrest of Rudy Guiliannay after refusing to pay him for his work.
Maybe Trump should have paid him and gladly awarded him a Pardon??????

(982 posts)This is SOP in Trumpland. If he allows them to win then it becomes a legal precedent that can be used by anyone else who was injured as a result of his actions. Under no circumstances will he admit any responsibility for this. The only way this could turn out badly for him is if these two capitol police refuse any settlement and go for a trial.

(7,231 posts)Will the Reich-wing law and order types who, to this day, believe Derek Chauvin was a victim of mob rule, now back and defend these injured police officers?
I think you know the answer.
