My Republican neighbors are largely conservative Catholics and Evangelicals, many of them Hispanic and Asian. I suspect the Republicans live here only for their work.

The conservative Catholics are always chafing that our local churches are too liberal. They don't like President Biden or Pope Francis. They scowl at homeless people.

I grew up in a 99% affluent white community because my parents found work there. They were artists with day jobs. My siblings and I all fled to more diverse places as soon as we could, as did my parents as soon as they retired to become full time artists. My wife and I haven't lived in a majority white neighborhood for more than thirty years, approaching forty altogether. We made a very deliberate decision to raise our children in a very diverse community: Black, Brown, and White, straight and LBGTQ, religious, areligious, and atheist. Our children, nephews, and nieces, their friends, significant others, and spouses represent a full rainbow of humanity. I'm proud of that.

The majority of our neighbors are Hispanic, as is my wife. Their parents or grandparents came to California as farm workers and other sorts of laborers.

My heritage is white wild west. My last immigrant ancestor was a mail order bride from Scandinavia to Salt Lake city. She didn't like sharing a husband so she ran off with a monogamous man and they established a homestead. The U.S.A. was encouraging non-Mormon homesteaders at the time, hoping to dilute that church's influence in that region.

I find it difficult to comprehend the near visceral fear many white Republicans seem to have of changing demographics in the U.S.A. unless they are thinking they will someday be oppressed as they have oppressed others.

My Army Air Corp / Apollo Project engineer grandfather had fits that I was marrying, in his own words, "a Mexican girl." Men in his family simply didn't do that. He boycotted our wedding. To his credit he got over it, possibly because my wife could do the math better than he could.

Good ole Deep Red Indiana .

OTOH, Only a couple of them are assholes. For the most part, they are quiet, considerate neighbors with no Trump signs or flags.

We've had an uptick in ethnic diversity in the neighborhood, and I was afraid racism would rear its ugly head, but so far they have been polite and welcoming.

Sure for my neighborhood, but that's not the demographics of the whole city I live in. There's more Republicans than that, but the Republicans tend to not like my neighborhood. They are too snooty to live here. They like the areas that are on the outskirts of the city with bigger properties and newer, more expensive homes. Overall, my city does lean towards Democrats, but not by that wide of a margin. The sister city across the river tends to elect slightly more Republicans, but even that city voted for Biden. The less populated areas outside these two cities tend to be Trumper zones.

Not surprised living in rural NC but you wouldn't know it driving through during an election because there are very few signs for either party. We don't discuss religion or politics. Mostly we talk about family, many pictures, and what we are building or repairing. Pretty much integrated, I ain't seen no pig pickin with just one color. When we moved here the church we go to was 95% Black, now it is 60% Black, the town is about 48% Black, 47% White, and the rest mostly from Mexico. It's a clean quiet town.

I just moved from the city to the burbs.

The old neighborhood, Wrigleyville, is 83% Democratic. So I’m used to being in a major bubble.

I will say one of the things that told me this house was “the one” was the Black Lives Matter signs on like 5 or 6 houses on the block. Also, there are several “we believe in science” and “we support teachers” signs.

There was one douche on a corner a half a mile away sporting his trump signs AFTER the election. I wanted to circle back to taunt him but my boyfriend wouldn’t let me.

I don't know what the NYT criteria is (2020??)

My precinct is about 55% Republican. Although in 2020 we had 3 more people vote for Biden than Trump. However, down ballot, they reverted to their old ways. In 2016, it went for Trump 55%.

49. I honestly do not believe the Times on this

They claim where I live is 55% Dem, 45% GOP, and less than 1% independent. There are just way too many registered independents for that to make any sense. Is this based on polls? votes for president vs party affiliation? I am not sure how useful the long term usefulness is of this if it is just based on votes for president.

From the article. it says:

"To make this interactive, we used a dataset containing the addresses and party identifications of 180 million registered voters in 2018. The data comes from L2, a company that gathers and sells publicly available voter registration records.

For voters who didn’t explicitly register as Democrats or Republicans, we estimated their partisan affiliation based on the ideological lean of the party they did register with and their voting history in primaries. In the absence of that information, we assigned parties based on voters’ demographics and precinct-level election results."

They assigned parties partly based on demographics and overall results from 2018 and from a company that sells voter records? Yeah, this is pretty far off from anything scientific.

When I typed in a street address just a couple miles away from me, with gigantic homes everywhere, it was estimated to be mostly Republican as I suspected.
