According to a report from USA Today, the Proud Boys were the recipients of a flood of donations after they were involved in Washington, D.C. street skirmishes in late December -- just weeks before the Jan. 6th Capitol insurrection.
Of note, the reports states, is the fact that more than 80 percent of the money that came through the Proud Boys' GoSendGo crowdfunding page came from contributors with Chinese surnames.
USA Today is reporting that, based on information provided to them by the whistleblower site Distributed Denial of Secrets, $106,107 was raised for medical costs with the bulk coming on late in the evening of Dec 17th.
According to the report, "A donor named Li Zhang gave $100. A few minutes later, someone named Jun Li donated $100. Then Hao Xu gave $20, followed shortly by $25 from a Ying Pei. In all, almost 1,000 people with Chinese surnames gave about $86,000, which the led USA Today's Will Carless to write, "Why would people from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and members of the Chinese American community, donate to an organization with deep ties to white supremacists, whose members flash white power signals and post racist memes on social media?"

(4,758 posts)I had the profound displeasure of being in DC, literally 1.5 blocks from the Capitol, for the first "Stop The Steal" circus in November (December?); a fairly large subset of that group was Chinese exiles who've gone absolutely bonkers for Trump's virulent anti-"CCP" message. Nothing (particularly) nefarious about these donations.

(19,204 posts)that the enemies of the United States will do, and are doing, anything they can to destroy the country from within. Americans are so shallow and self-centered they'll tear each other to shreds over the littlest thing. China and Russia are more than happy to supply those "little things" via Facebook and Twitter. They believe they can destroy this country from within without ever firing a shot.
From what I've seen in the past few decades, they're probably correct.

(146,329 posts)1000 donors gave a total of $86,000. Small potatoes, really, with no donations over $100, apparently.
It might mean something, but that something may not be not particularly significant, really.
I'm not sure any conclusions can be drawn from just this information.

(2,212 posts)Trump and his Brownshirts accused Biden of being in the pockets of the Chinese, so naturally it was Trump who was in the pockets of the Chinese.
Either that or they were setting up the Asian community for the forthcoming brutal terrorist assaults that we are now seeing.

(645 posts)I read most of the Alternet articles just because they are so available but. . . .
I'm old enough to remember the time when computers were just becoming available--not the PC's but the big mainframe ones. I spent a number of years fighting the phrase: "If it's on green bar then it must be right." Programmers write code; they are not necessarily good at math.
That's how I view Alternet and a lot of Internet content. Writers write; they are not necessarily good at analysis. Proceed with caution.

(32,715 posts)Donald Trump has a relationship with China that has changed almost on a daily basis. While he criticizes the Chinese government, Trump has made money in business dealings there, as well as with Chinese investors.
Whats more, his children have also profited from their myriad businesses in Chinaand are poised to make more whenever they leave office. Ivanka, for instance, has been granted a great many Chinese trademarks, including for coffins (see below).
In a 2011 interview with Forbes, Trump described his relationship with China as, I deal with China, as an example, a lot. It is never easy. And, Ive made some very big deals with the Chinese. Ive come out on top, Ive come out in great shape. I sell apartments to Chinese people. I get along great with them. Its not like Im anti-China.
Heres a list of all the public dealings Trump and his family have had with China.

(432 posts)Totally explains why The Proud Boys, Alex Jones, etc. keep pushing their "Anti-Communist" credo.
It's all bullshit to us, but many people have been traumatized by Communism.
How do right wing groups find them? Maybe place surveys for "Attitudes toward Communism" on websites popular with Chinese Americans to build email lists - which they use to further indoctrinate them and turn them into supporters.

(32,748 posts)Clearly that's not the case ... and this may be proof right here. A lot of the credit card theft of the last 30 years has been done by Russian and eastern European thieves who are very good, and don't often get caught. Are they only stealing American credit cards? Well ours have been easier to steal online because it took us longer to switch to the "smart" cards with microchips.
The European banks were onto them immediately and changed their entire credit card system to chipped cards which kept them out. The US banks waited another 20+ years before changing. The point is that the Russian & eastern European bad guys will steal from wherever they can. They're using false identities and stolen data to fund the fascists everywhere, including the Proud Boys and others in the US.
So, does this mean some of the thieves are actually operating in Asia now too? I'd say so.
