...even opportunistic thieves wanting to just do a smash & grab know about that back window & the alarm system.

Around the SF Bay Area the favorite car part to steal seems to be Prius catalytic converters. Why Prius? Because they're hybrids & the engine is not running nearly as often, the catalyst metals are not as contaminated & thus bring a higher price.
