Tennessee House lawmakers approve bill that would make the state a Second Amendment Sanctuary

https://www.localmemphis.com/mobile/article/news/politics/tennessee-house-lawmakers-approve-bill-that-would-make-the-state-a-second-amendment-sanctuary/522-26de4b33-ae5e-4519-836e-c5bec5a67314

House Bill 928 states a court ruling or law that violates the second amendment will be null and void in the state of Tennessee.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — A bill making Tennessee a Second Amendment Sanctuary is making its way through the legislature.

Legal experts say it’s a political statement and doesn’t hold real teeth.

Tennessee House lawmakers approved the bill which would give the state the power to nullify a federal law or court ruling that goes against the second amendment. But is it misleading?

More at link. I cannot imagine that this would stand up in court but, following putin's play book, dirtbag qpukes are grandstanding & will tie up things in court as usual. What an embarrassment.

STUPIDER and STUPIDER.

A Tennessee amendment could cost public schools funding if it teaches about systemic racism and sexism.

The Scopes Trial, formally known as The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes and commonly referred to as the Scopes Monkey Trial, was an American legal case in July 1925 in which a high school teacher, John T. Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which had made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school.[1]

one "biblical" and one "evolutionist".[50] Author David Goetz writes that the majority of Christians denounced evolution at the time.[50]

Author Mark Edwards contests the conventional view that in the wake of the Scopes trial, a humiliated fundamentalism retreated into the political and cultural background, a viewpoint which is evidenced in the film Inherit the Wind (1960) as well as in the majority of contemporary historical accounts.

11. Lesser known (or admitted) is that the trial pretty much destroyed William Jennings Bryan...

who died soon after.

Bryan was a complex individual-- one of the serious populists of the time, fighting for the women's vote, minimum wage and other good stuff. He even resigned as Secretary of State over our potential entry into WWI. He was hated by conservative Democrats of the time.

However, he fought for Prohibition, and against Darwinism-- which gained him few friends.

The Scopes trial destroyed both him and his memory.

7. You really should watch Stanley Kramer's film 'Inherit the Wind' from 1960 with Spencer Tracy

One of Kramer's and Hollywood's great 'message' films. He also directed great films about the dangers of racism, nuclear war, greed and fascism.

3. This is what they think "sanctuary cities" are doing.

They think a sanctuary city has declared federal immigration laws "null and void" so they're trying to do the same with gun laws.

Except sanctuary cities haven't done that; they're simply not using local resources to help enforce the federal government's laws. They are not trying to declare those laws null and void.

Idiots.
