TOPLINE Former President Donald Trump excoriated Facebook for its oversight board’s decision to uphold his suspension on Wednesday, calling on Republicans to take revenge and claiming social media companies destroyed the “electoral process.”

KEY FACTS

• Facebook’s oversight board on Wednesday upheld the social media company’s decision to suspend Trump from the platform after the January 6 Capitol riots, but added it was not “appropriate” for the site to impose an “indefinite ban” and said it would need to revisit the issue again in six months.

• In a statement, Trump called for social media companies to “pay a political price,” and said they had “taken away” free speech “from the president of the United States.”

• Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), a vocal Trump ally, similarly promised Facebook would “pay” a “price” for the decision and incorrectly stated the company’s decision meant the former president was banned “permanently,” before she deleted the tweet.
