(9,895 posts)Well, Chuckie, here's the thing - the First Amendment protection of free speech applies ONLY to the government and its ability to pass laws that limit speech, establish a state religion, etc., etc. Individual citizens can do and say pretty much whatever they damn well want, though they are NOT protected from the consequences of those actions and decisions. They may be as vile and hateful as the communities they reside in will abide, but they generally find that they run afoul of things like access providers who will NOT abide their bile.
The thing that infected the Oval Office is no different. His right to say whatever dumb shit he wants is NOT violated here, but his access to other people's infrastructure and systems to make it easy for him IS NOT A RIGHT.
I thought the GQP was for free-dumb and business-directed polices - guess that is another 'right' reserved for old white men, huh?

(70,516 posts)From wiki: He was briefly banned from Twitter after falsely claiming that hydroxychloroquine has proved to be "100% effective in treating the virus"; and that Gretchen Whitmer, the Democratic governor of Michigan, threatened doctors who tried to use the medication.[2] This falsehood was retweeted by Rudolph Giuliani whose account was then suspended by Twitter.

(13,601 posts)They keep thinking they can run to the supreme court and have it impose their will in non-judicial matters on others. Facebook's "Oversight Board" isn't a judicial body. Geesh. Let trump do his little blog. There's no shortage of such blogs littering the internet.

(5,940 posts)...is that it does not obligate any person or business to publish what someone has to say.
If I write a letter to the editors of the local paper, they might or might not print it. They won't be violating my First Amendment rights if they choose not to print it.
If I call in to Sean Hannity's radio show tomorrow, his call screener and his producer probably won't like what I have to say, and will probably choose not to air it. That's fine. The First Amendment does not obligate them to broadcast my spiel.
All of this would be especially true if I were urging others to commit a crime. In that case, the media has an obligation not to help me get that message out.
Pretty simple, right? But good luck explaining it to the ignorant, arrogant, and entitled people that make up the modern GOP.
