The firing of an Atlanta police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks has been reversed. The Atlanta Civil Service Board ruled the officer didn't receive due process when he was fired a day after the shooting last June.

ATLANTA (AP) The firing of the former Atlanta police officer whos charged with murder in the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks has been reversed.
Garrett Rolfe was fired in June, a day after he shot Brooks in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. The Atlanta Civil Service Board on Wednesday released its decision on Rolfes appeal of his firing.
Due to the Citys failure to comply with several provisions of the Code and the information received during witnesses testimony, the Board concludes the Appellant was not afforded his right to due process, the board said in its decision. Therefore, the Board grants the Appeal of Garrett Rolfe and revokes his dismissal as an employee of the APD.
Atlanta police Sgt. William Dean had testified that the firing seemed rushed, and Rolfe was not given sufficient time to respond, according to the decision released Wednesday.
Dean also said that during his tenure in the police departments internal affairs unit, he was not aware of any such termination of an officer for an alleged firearms violation without the department first conducting an investigation, the decision states.
He further stated that the hurried dismissal may have been due in part, to a press conference that was on the horizon, it says.

So why is he whining?

(16,846 posts)2. Didn't the APD understand that they couldn't
fire Rolfe without due process? How could they not fire him legally so that this couldn't happen? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
