Outside the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, the senator from Vermont focused on Kentuckys other senator, McConnell, accusing him of obstructing bids to improve health care and decrease poverty whilst reportedly raising funds from banks and corporate giants, as reported by The Courier Journal.
Mr Sanders said: As we speak, Senator McConnell is leading the effort against the long-term structural changes that working people in Kentucky and throughout our country desperately need.
Mr Sanders added: How does it happen that Mitch McConnell is working overtime to block legislation that would improve the lives of so many working-class people in Kentucky, while he is doing everything that he can to make the richest people in America even richer? And the answer is pretty simple: Follow the money.
Its a question of whose interests the government represents. Its a question of whether you fight for the needs of the wealthy and large corporations who fund your campaigns, or the working families of our country.

(82,849 posts)I humbly submit that Democrats and progressives can take this message deeper into Kentucky than just Louisville. We don't have to get every voter in East Bumblefuck voting for Democrats, but we can certainly do better than we have been, and the position articulated by Sen. Sanders might do just that.

(25,537 posts)the ones blocking legislation that would improve the lives of working class people. Republicans are doing everything they can to make the richest people in America even richer, who don't fight for the needs of the working families of our country and for the wealthy and large corporations who fund their campaigns. Not Democrats.

adjoining bridge to relief ever growing traffic in a critical business area and no money in the State
to solve this $$$ billion dollar problem, according to the NY Times.

(7,263 posts)It is an institution that still perpetuates the myth of Southern Belles and Rich Plantation owners.
It is enshrines the lifestyle of the privileged few IMHO.
Keep the race, but get rid of the 'Old South' hoopla.
Perhaps Bernie could speak there ...but then he and his working class views would probably not be received well. McConnell would get a standing O.
