RICHMOND, Va. (CN) Nobody has been killed by a breast, an attorney for a group of women argued before a Fourth Circuit panel Wednesday as he assailed Ocean City, Marylands ban on topless women.
Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania-based lawyer Devon M. Jacob is representing a handful of women who approached the city in 2016 about its policy on toplessness in the coastal tourist destination. While no policy existed before local media picked up on the issue, before long Ocean City argued that media attention led to emails and phone calls supporting an effort to keep female breasts concealed.
Courts around the country have fallen on both sides of the issue. Chief U.S. Circuit Judge Roger Gregory, a Bill Clinton appointee, had tough questions Wednesday for Ocean City about the plaintiffs equal protection claims.
This law came into effect about what they would do if they expressed their freedom on the beach? the judge asked during the virtual hearing, referring to the ordinance that is less than five years old. This moral sensibility was a recent vintage, right? It didnt exist before someone asked the question?

(16,846 posts)a strip of cloth across the breasts, anyway, basically covering the nipples. What difference does that strip of cloth make? Besides, if men can run around topless, women should be allowed to as well. Having more fat in the chest area isn't a good enough reason for banning topless women.

Seriously though I have zero objections to naked people - period.

(38,317 posts)I should complain.
A few internet key word searches will dredge up pictures of a hot young hunter frolicking full frontal nude in exotic environments.
I once modeled nude for a college drawing class. One of these drawings was good enough that it was exhibited in the College Admin Building. So I was standing there looking at the drawing, it was really good, better than real life, when a middle aged woman came up next to me admiring it. Then she turned and looked at me, scanning me from head to toe and back again, and she said, "Oh, oh... That's you!"
I don't think I've ever blushed so deeply.

(246 posts)What is really bizarre is that the male dominated legal culture that breeds our rules + regs on such thing LOVES breast in all kinds of risque, sexy and fetishized contexts but NO BREASTS allowed in natural and comfortable settings like on the beach and swimming and PLEASE no visible evidence of actual breastfeeding in public.
This is backwards, upside down, sexist bullshit. "Moral sensibility", my ass. That is some effed up shit. For real.
It's like the crazies want breasts to exist only in hidden, tawdry, sexualized contexts.
Normalizing seeing breasts in natural healthy human contexts such as on a beach and feeding infants would go a long way towards breaking down the distorted and oppressive view that breasts are strictly sexual, for men's pleasure, a part of the body that needs to be hidden and finally, a part of the body to pumped full of saline or silicone. This would in turn, be one small dent in the lingering pervasive view of women as sex objects (I know not everyone and every male views women that way, but there is still plenty of it).
