So why should we bother to vote in red states? After all, the Republican legislatures of those states have made it difficult, if not impossible, for Democratic votes to be cast, or counted. And in some cases, Republicans have passed laws which let them "override" election supervisors, even if those supervisors are elected Republicans.
Let's face it. Wingnut lunatics in the Republican Party are dedicated to taking over the country in 2022 and 2024 regardless of how the American public votes, or whoever actually wins the elections. Seems to me that's the definition of fascism.
Do I need to be more specific about this? The Republican Party wants a dictatorship run by the powers who control/own the Republican Party.
And there's one more horrible aspect to this scenario. It's really ugly, but I believe it needs to be said, and there's no nice way to say it: I believe that some/many(?) Republicans would welcome a (shooting) Civil War if that's what it takes to make their dictatorship a reality.
And I also believe that most Democrats would do everything possible to avoid this horror.
But it doesn't matter what I believe. One of America's two political parties has gone totally batshit insane and will do anything, anything at all, to have their way.
And the rest of us still believe that freedom and democracy will prevail. Are we being naive?

(3,573 posts)but I suspect that when you're the target, there no fun anymore. But, I also think that the GOP believe that the Democrats will just roll over and play dead.

(2,541 posts)The GOP has clearly shown that they feel they know what is best for us and should be the only political party to make laws. They definitely want a dictatorship with them as dictators. The voting legislation being passed across the country clearly shows this. They want to be able to pick the candidate they want to win no matter who win the vote.
If Dems do not get aggressive and start combating the changes state GOPs are marking they will never hold a majority again...they have wasted too much time already because of Manchin as it is. Schumer needs to start acting like a Majority Leader.

(6,254 posts)Republican extremism. They will do whatever it takes to win we have seen that time and again. For four years they refused to stand up for democracy and broke every norm we all took for granted. The window is shutting fast and I am terrified of 2022. How many times have we screamed they cant do that and they did it anyway and now we are seeing the making of a new King named DeSantis propped up by Fox. Folks we are in deep trouble. It wont matter if Biden makes life for the common person better, this is a cultural war and its Libs vs the Nazis. They have proven they will do what it takes to win but do we share the same commitment ? If we dont get rid of the filibuster then we know the answer.

me that they're not using tactics that will lead to any victory on their part.
