Yes the future is scary and the Republicans won't stop doing and saying crazy things. But as Democrats we have a lot to be thankful for.
1. Joe Biden is President and defeated an incumbent by over 7 million votes and with 306 electoral votes.
2. We won 2 Senate races in Georgia giving us control of both houses of Congress and making Mitch McConnell minority leader.
3. Trump is banned from Twitter and Facebook.
4. The January 6th insurrection showed America and our allies just how dangerous Trump and his supporters are. It's all their on video. And the Republicans refusal to hold Trump accountable has shown independent voters exactly how extreme the GOP has become.
Like any abusive relationship the Republicans want Democrats to live in a constant state of fear. And the political pundits helping them spread right wing propaganda are helping them.
.
However, the bottom line is we won in 2020. We're in power. The midterms are 18 months away which in politics is a lifetime. Anything can happen between now and then. The events of 2020 proved that.
So I just try to enjoy the present. Everyday Trump, Pence and McConnell aren't leading the country is a gift. We turned out and voted in record numbers last November in the middle of a deadly pandemic and won big. We should take a moment and be proud of all we've accomplished in the past 4 years.

(702 posts)I didn't know they were going to do it for us...we can push here and there to assist but...
the republican scream machine just might unravel itself. So I share your optimistic view...
It at least is damaging itself enough to fade to irrelevance. My hope anyway.

(694 posts)liberals, and democrats from voting. We're about 92 years out from Nazism (5000 from Babylon) and still dealing with the same shit. We are glorified monkeys who would throw our shit at each other from the treetops, if we could. The human species doesn't have a brain for success.

(26,276 posts)I've never been a 'live in the moment' kind of person, for the majority of my life. I always seem to be think of and doing what I have to do so that the future won't be bleak. That's not to say I don't, on occasion, step out of that anxiety bubble but I need to do it far more often.
Of course, 15 months of almost total self isolation coming on the heels of losing 7 family members has made the problem even worse. The '20-teens' were a nightmare, for me. I really hoped that 2020 would be a fresh beginning.
But having Joe and Kamala at the head of the nation does inspire me to try to feel optimistic and happy, in the moment.
