(19,204 posts)She's a white republican, and if she has no prior run-ins with the law she'll never see a day behind bars.

(19,204 posts)Reading further it says she's been sentenced to 10 mos. In federal prison. Must be she did have some prior brushes with the law. She'll be out in 6 mos. though, and free to ply her racist trade as before.

A West Virginia woman who was fired from her job in 2016 after writing a demeaning Facebook post about Michelle Obama was sentenced to prison on Thursday for embezzling more than $18,000 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster benefits.
Pamela Taylor, 57, who served as director of the Clay County Development Corporation, was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison and two months of home confinement, the U.S. attorney's office said. She was also fined $10,000.
Defrauding federal programs is always an egregious act," said Mark Tasky, special agent in charge, U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General, in a statement. "Disaster relief fraud is even more serious because of the limited nature of the funds intended to assist Americans in their time of greatest need."
Taylor pleaded guilty in February to falsely registering for more than $18,000 in FEMA disaster benefits after flooding in Clay County, West Virginia, in June 2016. The floods killed 23 people.

And this happened almost two years ago.
So why is this coming around again, as if it is news?

(34,136 posts)For all I know there could be additional charges which could lead to longer sentences. Let me do some more research on this person. BRB.
ETA - She could have gotten up to 30 years, but being a white woman only got 10 months + 2 months home arrest. The article I cited is pretty much the best I can find on it, so the meme in the OP was very old prior to sentencing.

(22 posts)It couldn't have happened to a more deserving person, although I suspect she's out of prison by now. She's probably working on tRump's 2024 campaign staff. She was sentenced back in 2019..... I'm sure she's totally changed her ways, probably a good Christian.

(3,417 posts)His sentence vacated for proscectional misconduct and incompetent defense attorney.
He did NOT do the crime.
His charge: Robbing a man of $102 with a gun.
Robber took the money, but left wallet, phone, with victim who was never touched.
The sentence given an innocent black teenager:
SIXTY YEARS HARD LABOR!...a virtual life sentence for $102 robbery.
After nearly eight years served, he was released and conviction vacated.
So...this white lady steals $18 grand and MAY face ten months in prison?
WOW!

(6,446 posts)She didn't steal the 18 grand with a gun. While i understand that your friend didn't do the crime, there are all sorts of other charges that could apply if you use a firearm to steal. 60 years is absurd... but i can see why stealing $102 with a gun might mean a longer sentence than $18,000 on paper. My boss from 10 years ago embezzled money from our company (around $23,000)... he served 2+ years and had to give back every dime. He is a black man. He would have gotten a longer sentence had he walked into the store and pointed a gun at the cashier.

(35,693 posts)she'd now be in her late fifties/early sixties and she's a felon. The kind of work she's done in the past is not going to be possible for her as a felon.
She has chopped a good five years of earnings off her work record and that will count against her when it comes to calculating Social Security benefits.
As far as the $8000 goes, an attorney for a crime like this will run around $8-10g a month, so she probably spent her "profit" on the attorney, not to mention any life savings or home equity she may have had.
