Wildlife advocacy groups are sounding the alarm about a new "extermination" law in Idaho, signed this week by GOP Gov. Brad Little, that will allow hunters and private contractors to kill up to 90% of the state's gray wolf populationabout 1,350 animals.
"Backed by an array of misinformation and fearmongering, the state Legislature stepped over experts at the Idaho Fish and Game Department and rushed to pass this horrific wolf-killing bill," said Andrea Zaccardi, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, in a statement.
"And Republican lawmakers have promised that this is just the beginning, even though the new measure would doom 90% of Idaho's wolves," Zaccardi noted. "We're disappointed that Gov. Little signed such a cruel and ill-conceived bill into law."

(86,673 posts)They don't care for the taste of humans and would only hunt them if no other food was available or they had been conditioned to see humans as having food for them. And they would probably not care for the stench of that crowd anyway.

(13,601 posts)boonies where you used to only be able to hunt with pack animals.
And now they have bigger ATV's like Razors and Sidekicks allowing them to bring even more people and shit for the kill.
I was hoping against hope Little would do the right thing with a veto but his family sheep background appears to have held sway.

(50,561 posts)In the 1970s and early 1980s, it was totally illegal to hunt from any kind of a vehicle, so no one brought their three-wheelers and four-wheelers hunting. And they had decent percentages of success. Now? They hunt from these noisy-ass vehicles, and the elk get the hell out of Dodge for the duration of hunting season.

(17,006 posts)moves in. Say hello to the coyote. Wolves steer clear of humans and arent known for hanging around the landfill for a free meal. Coyotes on the other hand do very well in suburbia. Trash and the occasional small pet and theyre damn happy. They also have no problem killing new born calves. Ranchers would be better off putting some donkeys in with the cattle. One donkey can keep up to 300 head of cattle safe. They are territorial, have great hearing and a really nasty kick.

Under a federal law known as the Pittman Robertson Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gives Idaho and other states millions of dollars each year to fund state wildlife-management projects. Such conservation funds can only be entrusted to states
that have demonstrated their commitment to actual wildlife conservation.
Please ask the agency to disqualify Idaho from receiving federal funding for wildlife management
unless the state immediately repeals its wolf-extermination legislation.
