Rep. Liz Cheney had been arguing for months that Republicans had to face the truth about former president Donald Trump that he had lied about the 2020 election result and bore responsibility for the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol when the Wyoming Republican sat down at a party retreat in April to listen to a polling briefing. The refusal to accept reality, she realized, went much deeper.
When staff from the National Republican Congressional Committee rose to explain the partys latest polling in core battleground districts, they left out a key finding about Trumps weakness, declining to divulge the information even when directly questioned about Trumps support by a member of Congress, according to two people familiar with what transpired.
Trumps unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones in the core districts, according to the full polling results, which were later obtained by The Washington Post. Nearly twice as many voters had a strongly unfavorable view of the former president as had a strongly favorable one.
Cheney was alarmed, she later told others, in part because Republican campaign officials had also left out bad Trump polling news at a March retreat for ranking committee chairs. Both instances, she concluded, demonstrated that party leadership was willing to hide information from their own members to avoid the truth about Trump and the possible damage he could do to Republican House members, even though the NRCC denied any such agenda.
But Lindsey says there's no GOP without frump!

(22,156 posts)counted. Idiots can BS all they want (as they still obviously are, and by the way, who trusts a single republican today, being that they all are liars and/or accept blatant lies that rump sprouted by the tens of thousands as a matter of record?).
The gop is ridiculous. They are lashing out everywhere that they can, and before long (if they haven't already), infringed on voter's rights to a free from hassle as well as a secure election.
This I think will mandate that the US Supreme Court will finally have to step in and dictate something, especially being that republicans everywhere are trying to suppress voter turnouts by passing blatantly one-sided laws.

(6,905 posts)Their entire universe depends on the 2020 election being fraudlent.
And it's going to take more than simple facts and reality to shatter that illusion.
I only wish i knew - or, even better, that sane people with large platforms knew - exactly what.

(2,218 posts)She had the connection stream to get into power without having to provide the documentation of horrid crime needed to obtain support and campaign cash in the current Republican party.
Her family discussions, I suspect include long term analysis. In their worst case scenario the Republicans cast her out and the Republican party takes over and we have Fascism until it falls hard, like stupid and evil inevitably must.
After the fall, the rich will still push for their representation and Liz will be perfect for it.
In the more likely scenario, where the schisms in the Republican party grow into the division between the slave wanting incel idiots and the more classic loot the poor and start wars for profit branches of the Republican party, Liz stands to become a leader of the side with money flowing from deep coffers.
Long term, her stance now is the only Republican stance that has a chance. Until the Republican party catches on and drops the southern strategy of evil and moves far enough back to the center that the more conservative of us, here on this forum decide they prefer them, it will be downhill, win or lose for the Republican cause.
Expect them to start lying about being environmental and pro science heroes soon. They won't be, but they will use their funding streams to distort and make it look like their ideas are sound while being what big money considers still profitable. They will try to lure unions, but it will again be to take over unions and make them false servants of the working class. In this environment however, it will be possible that some Republicans who actually base their actions on their ideals may make it into politics and we could return to sort of what we used to think of as normal.
