Not being an idiot doesnt make you a hero.
Shes wrapped, coated, and dipped in privilege. She could be a representative for 12 people* or making big bucks on The View or some sort of copy cat.
*to be accurate there are more people than that there.

(13,920 posts)everyone said the the same hopeful positive things about many republicans through the trump era, and the bush era before that.
And they all fell in line when it was important.
To me it looks like a public feud to rile the base, while allowing Cheney to create a fallback position for the GOP in case the main fascist attack fails catastrophically (It is still quite active and has not failed, given that no one in power has paid any real cost for the attempt to overthrow the government as yet, the ringleaders are one and all still free and still plotting their next move, and the politicians are vigerously working to make sure they can fully control who they will allow to vote in the future).
I'd bet that Cheney and trump in a closed door meeting would have little to no disagreement.

(102,282 posts)I have written extensively about my own intense disdain for the Cheneys, as I had a professional encounter with Dick many years ago that was exceedingly unpleasant, to say the least, and set me up for the utter contempt I have had for decades--with great subsequent validation.
But, even conspiracy theories need to be bounded within logic.

(16,222 posts)I have posted here I thought she was brave. I said that in the pretense she was speaking truth to power on the issue that The Big Lie was just that. A
Big lie. No one was coming to her side of truth. Every day its something.. I really dont care about her politics as long as shes speaking truth to power. If she has that much going for her, cant we work with that? If she speaks truth than cant we work with her? And why not?

(16,399 posts)She IS speaking truth to power, and I DO enjoy watching a woman (or a man, if there was one) standing up to all those slimy sniveling sycophant Trumpublicans who are making asses of themselves pushing the Big Lie and prostrating themselves at the smelly orange feet of the Big Liar.
I was quite impressed with her speech. It was great to see someone stand up and call out Trump on all of his election fraud b.s. and call out all of the Republicans who have chosen supporting the Big Liar over supporting our democracy. I don't have to agree with her politics or support her politcal ambitions to recognize the value of that and be happy to see it happen.
I'm pretty sure she made some of those worms squirm today, and I can't not be pleased about that.

welcome to DU
enjoy your stay
I just dont think one has to do with the other. Why any Democrat isnt enjoying watching the Trumpists and traditional Republicans fighting and damaging that party is a mystery to me. Romney is basically the Liz Cheney of the Senate and yet theres more vitriol for her. Maybe its a sexist thing. Who knows. Also, I see Democrats enjoying the shitshow civil war in the Republican Party; I dont see Democrats calling Cheney a hero. So thats a straw man.
And thanks for the welcome! Still seeing my way around here. What does 3 posts hidden in 90 days: -60 in your profile mean?

And does copying and pasting the rule about not sending messages about site rules violate the rule about not posting messages about site rules?

(13,920 posts)A, nothing the republicans do is civil.
B.. 10 out of 212 is not a civil war. A larger percentage of registered Democrats voted for trump than the percentage of house republicans that voted against him. Heck, a larger percent of registered Republicans voted against trump than that of house republicans. There is no war, there is only Republicans pushing for different strategies in their fight to achieve fascism.

(254 posts)They just voted her out of leadership. Of course, a lot of this is just pure sexism.
Her policy positions are abhorrent and she comes from one of the worst political legacy families of the last 30 years, but I for one am glad that she is causing political disruption within the republican party. I dont know why any Democrat wouldnt be happy to see that.

(254 posts)Im referring more broadly, to the effort to diminish her standing (or maybe silence her) via any kind of criticism. It makes sense for a Trumpist to do that; it doesnt make sense at all, on this current issue, for a Democrat to do that.

(146,316 posts)Seriously, using that language in that way does not make the point you hope to make. I don't like Liz Cheney. I don't trust her for one minute. But, using a violent-sounding word for sexual intercourse to express your disdain for her is inappropriate, I think.
I would like to see that usage disappear entirely, frankly.

(13,496 posts)She's doing the right thing in this instance. For self serving reasons? Maybe. She'll be the leader of the GOP resistance, potentially setting her up in four years.
Her politics are antithetical to everything I stand for, yet I still have enjoyed watching her stick it to the GOP. Doesn't mean I'm going to vote for her ever.
