General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI know I am not alone when I say that it was embarrassingly obvious the very first time that
I saw and heard from the likes of Donald Trump, Mike Lindell, Wayne LaPierre, Matt Gaetz and Ted Cruz that they were lying hypocritical phonies. I had no detailed evidence---no real "proof" that they were bad people, but still I KNEW that they were.
I have enough sense to know that such "knowledge" must be corroborated by subsequent observation before it can be acted upon and openly discussed with reference to a political figure's competence and character, BUT---whether you attribute it to "intuition" or "spidey sense", it has very seldom misled me.
Some people just seem to radiate waves of "skeevy".

(635 posts)You are so right. Some things are as plain as the nose on a face. I always recognize the face of a Dorian Gray. It's very obvious.

(6,880 posts)That - and some other people seem to have what I can only call a gift of discernment. My late mother had that in spades. All she needed was a photograph to tell you whether or not you could trust someone. I learned not to dismoss that (although I also knew and still know that such knowledge must be corroborated before it can be discussed. However, I might point out that it's easier to recognize corroboration if one is looking for it silently.)
I have some ability in that direction - but nowhere near what she had. Another reason to miss her.

(35,680 posts)I have it, too. The photograph thing is important and even better is meeting the person f2f.
I have girlfriends in some distant cities and now and then they'll have a relationship with some guy whose behavior is puzzling. Just by hearing their stories, I can only tell so much. But let me meet the person or send me a photo and I can pretty much nail the situation right then and there.
Sometimes I can get it from handwriting.
It's just a feeling and then I have to put it into words, which isn't always so easy.

(63,221 posts)It's just instinct. And when you think about it, that is what animals rely upon and basically we are just more advanced animals.
I can spot bad news a mile away and I have never been wrong. I can even tell by looking at a photograph of someone. I know most people won't believe that, but my instincts have always been spot on ever since I was a child and they have served me well. There is no logical explanation, it is just an intuitive thing.

(6,880 posts)I did do it from a photograph once when it wasn't totally obvious (as Trump** is, for instance) but I am not consistent, as Mom was. But I never thought she was the only one in the world who had that. I'm not surprised there are others (just al little envious.)

(63,221 posts)were other people who thought they were "great" and "really fun", etc., so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. However, almost without fail, my instincts would eventually be proven spot on. Sooner or later, I always found out there was a damn good reason not to trust the person that I was getting bad vibes about.

(4,261 posts)the ugliness within seeps into their face/facial expressions and posture. Some like the two pedophiles I once thought were friends it is harder to tell. That they got caught and were sent to jail was fortunate. I wonder how many slip by me constantly. It makes you doubt everyone.

(7,622 posts)This is one of the monstrous puzzles of our age. These are bad people, they make little effort to hide it, and some of them just plain can't hide it. This raises the question- can the Trumpers not see what we see (usually in the first two minutes)- or do they just not care. I tend to believe the latter in many cases. It explains the spiteful motivation of "owning the libs."

(93 posts)We, the people of the United States of America; the ones who value the mission and vision of our forebears and every keeper of the flame since: spend great effort trying to find ways to stay ahead of those who do not carry that vision.
We read, we research, we listen, we strategize, organize and petition. We work so hard trying to contain, babysit, expose and defeat the worst among us while they
pick away at the foundation we were formed on.
How did we get here? How did they get elected? How does this "happen?"
It isn't because we aren't working hard enough or that a whole lot of people are easily duped. People work with the choices they are given.
I hope one day enough people will hear something wise in what I've mentioned a few times;
As long as we allow ourselves to be led by persons who share none of the values that make us great, who have no credentials, from whom nothing is expected,
and whose misdeeds have no real consequences, .. every we stand for, every achievement is a mockery.
When will we finally put together requirements for being elected to the highest offices of the land that reflect the values we hold dear.

(7,541 posts)The majority are swindlers that live off other people's money. The first time I ever heard of Donald Trump waaay back in the 80's I knew that he was a fraudster. I saw the adulation of the man's garish tastes and lifestyle as a definitive sign of the deterioration of American culture. I watched him lose in court against the NFL. I laughed when I heard he was selling steaks. His move into the business of fake university degrees was a natural for him, much the way that eating shit is natural for a catfish. Everything the man touched turned to shit...all he knew how to do was talk people into giving him money, cutting corners, litigating and pocketing the cash. When his track record finally caught up with him of course he went to the shylocks, those being the Eastern European and Russian mobs.
The only thing that truly surprised me was the media's behavior during the 2016 election.
