What Liz Cheney told House Republicans before her ouster from leadership

Axios

What she's saying: "Our nation needs this Republican Party as a strong party based on truth so we can shape the future," Cheney said.

"To do that, we must be true to our principles and to the constitution. We cannot let the former president drag us backward and make us complicit in his efforts to unravel our democracy. Down that path lies our destruction, and potentially the destruction of our country," she continued, referring to Trump.

"If you want leaders who will enable and spread his destructive lies, I’m not your person, you have plenty of others to choose from. That will be their legacy."

"But I promise you this, after today, I will be leading the fight to restore our party and our nation to conservative principles, to defeating socialism, to defending our republic, to making the GOP worthy again of being the party of Lincoln."

I have always know that among those with whom I disagree strongly on many issues, that some of them have legitimate personal integrity and some core principles on which to find common ground. Liz Cheney is strongly defending our democratic system of government, and on that critical issue I call her my ally.

Not to mention more forever wars.

Good for her but it stops right there, once she stops shooting at the stupid in the GQP she turns her guns towards us quick fast

The Soviet Union and the United States help each other in the defeat of Hitler and Fascism. With Hitler gone and Germany defeated, the USSR and the USA become enemies.

So, Liz Cheney wants to be a paragon of truth. Would she be willing to shed light on her father's lies and those of the Bush Administration that helped lead us to this present situation? I'm not betting on it. She's still a republican.

The spew about "Defeating socialism" is all the evidence you need that she's just as delusional as the insurrectionists.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm not saying anything anyone here hasn't thought or written. She's as vile as her father. But in her recent actions she has at least shown something - spine, maybe?

But defeating socialism? WTF? Is she planning pre-emptive strikes against Scandinavia?

Defending our republic? I'm with you there, but you want to defend it against sound policy that benefits all Americans. We want to defend it from Republican extremists, insurrectionists, and terrorists.

So we're not entirely on the same wavelength.

All of that said, someone should start a pool on whether she will form a third party and on whether she will continue to vote the party line.

My bet is no third party and damn near 100% party line vote. So unless she has a plan to deprogram the trump cultists inside the government, her words are fundamentally meaningless. Good news cycle stuff, but meaningless. Or maybe this new role of outcast will allow her to do stuff behind the scenes to unravel the GQP. Who knows?

Cheney is a little late to the game in advocating for what's truly important for our democracy. Through the years, she's done her part to pave the way for the Republican Party to reach this ugly, destructive place. The question needs to be asked, "What took you so long, Liz"?
