(7,510 posts)She's a model and she's looking good
I'd like to take her home that's understood
She plays hard to get, she smiles from time to time
It only takes a camera to change her mind
She's going out tonight, loves drinking just champagne
And she has been checking nearly all the men
She's playing her game and you can hear them say
She is looking good, for beauty, we will pay
She's posing for consumer products now and then
For every camera, she gives the best she can
I saw her on the cover of a magazine
Now she's a big success, I want to meet her again

(33 posts)Now she will be inducted as a solo performer. But I agree, it took far too long.

(10,014 posts)That said, Carol King should be in a category by herself.
Where's Joni Mitchell?

(65,057 posts)Late 90s.
Carol is already in (1990, I think) as a songwriter with her ex-husband, Gerry Gotten, as a songwriter.
She's going in this time as a performer. Stupidly long wait, though.

(5,914 posts)I've always been a big fan, but that documentary taught me a lot of stuff that I didn't know about them. Like the fact that Kathy Valentine had never played the bass before and had just two weeks to learn their set list on it.

(29,674 posts)By an all women group who not only wrote their own music but played it and the instruments. They perfected the pop punk sound and have influenced countless musicians, men and women both, to pursue music.
They 100% deserve it.

but I'm really glad to see Randy Rhoads name included, he was one hell of a guitarist who died far to early.

(3,492 posts)Considering the people who have been left out over and again despite their international success, longevity and influence and putting in so many second liners over the years makes this whole thing pathetic.

(50,559 posts)When you went to bed last night Stevie Nicks was the only woman to have been inducted into the Hall twice. Now there are three: Tina Turner went in with Ike, and Carole King was there as a songwriter.
Given that, I would have really liked to see Iron Maiden go in. The induction ceremony would have been legendary.

(129,053 posts)And glad to see Gil Scott-Heron on there. I think what happened this past summer with BLM is a reflection of this 50+ year old poem/song (at least based on what he meant by it) -

(10,903 posts)They're the Beatles of electronic music. Their influence is huge. Not sure if they qualify as "rock and roll" but happy to see them honored.
Also glad Todd Rundgren got the nod. Brilliant artist who often tends to fly under the radar.

(33,580 posts)some should have been in long ago.
But what does Jay-Z have to do with Rock and Roll?

(9,988 posts)Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five got in in 2007. Public Enemy, Tupac, NWA, Run-DMC, and the Beastie Boys are in there too.

(33,580 posts)I just don't understand why. It's not Rock & Roll. I think it is just a ploy to seem relevant. Not that these artists aren't worthy of recognition, but just create a Hip-Hop hall of fame.
Being popular music stars doesn't mean they should be in the R&RHOF.
If Run-DMC, why not Sinatra, or Pavarotti or YoYo Ma?
What about Hank Williams? More Rock artists have sung Hank William Songs than Jay-Z's.

(29,674 posts)Carole King is also in with her ex as songwriters.
Both Turner and King will joining Stevie Nicks as the only three women inducted twice. Nicks was inducted with Fleetwood Mac and then in 2019 as a solo artist. Turner and King will join her with this class as solo artists.
Also wanted to add that a third person will also be a two time inductee with the Class of 2021. Dave Grohl was inducted with Nirvana and will be inducted with the Foo Fighters. Only one person has been inducted three times: Eric Clapton. If Neil Young had been inducted with Crosby,Stills and Nash he would also be a three time inductee.
