(66,369 posts)You can't feel your blood pressure rising. You can feel your stress level rising, and yeah, stress can elevate your blood pressure. But you can't actually feel your blood pressure rising.
It can be a dangerous misconception when "feeling well" leads a hypertension patient to forgo their medication. If they only take their medication when they "feel their blood pressure rising", bad things result.

(34,136 posts)But I could feel my stress level rising which is never good for my blood pressure. Perhaps I should use that phrase rather than the blood pressure one?
Actually since my aortic valve replacement, my blood pressure has returned to it's formerly low range. Except that is, when I've had a vasovagal syncope - which are no fun. Since the last one the doctor took me off my blood pressure medication. If the syncope episodes continue, I suspect they may want to put in a pacemaker, but so far they are rare enough that has not been discussed.
I discovered that you can feel when your blood pressure is too low - I had nausea and dizziness before I passed out. Until then I never knew that nausea was a symptom of extreme low blood pressure!

(1,329 posts)High blood pressure is often called The Silent Killer because it doesn't come with symptoms. You know, if you have a cold, for example, you're going to have symptoms, coughing, congestion, runny nose, sneezing, etc.
You're not going to have any symptoms with high blood pressure until right before it's about to kill you. Headache, blurred vision, dizziness, disorientation, chest pain, shortness of breath, etc. But your blood pressure would have to be, say, 220/170 or so for that to happen. Below that rough level, you're not really going to have any symptoms at all. This is why hypertension often goes undiagnosed until it's nearly too late.
The goal of treatment is to make sure it never gets that high. But there are patients who are reluctant to take their medication every day, because they feel fine. I urge my patients to adhere to their treatment plan even if they feel on top of the world.

(66,369 posts)I just tell my patients not to rely on that.
You'd be surprised how many patients who say "I know my body!" don't know it as well as they think they do.

(23,018 posts)I got a bad chest infection early 2019. BP was elevated at the time, not unusual they said. I had a physical a couple months before and everything was fine. After the virus my BP never returned to normal. It appears my body now makes too much and/or is too sensitive to the hormones that constrict the blood vessels. It took over a year to figure out the right med combination, but now Im stable. Im active physically and healthy which made adjusting the meds a challenge (had a few low BP moments)

(13,991 posts)that only reacts to high dose clonidine. Theres been a few times when Ive ran out and the pharmacy was out so I had to wait a few days. When that happens, I get really high rebound hypertension and I do feel like shit. I can feel my heart beating out of my chest as well as massive head pounding. When this happens, my BP is usually around 200/120. Dangerously high, in other words.

(6,829 posts)There are many wild asses in the Southwest*. Abandoned in situ, they were pack animals used by miners seeking uranium (and stuff) in the last century, they have propagated like rabbits, both have long ears, too. Usually found in areas known for radio-active mineral ores, they are genetic mutants. It's totally reasonable, almost Biblically so, that there'd be Republican semi-sentient, Equus africanus asinus-hybrids.
