....entered into a plea deal this morning - 82 months with no parole. I saw this on Twitter, but haven't been able to find anything in the news yet. Anyone else see anything about this?
Edit: This is from April 27:

(33,643 posts)Nearly 7 years hard time is better than what I was expecting for any of these people aside from those proven to have attacked the CP directly.
That bodes well for some real justice, if true.
I'm skeptical, however.

I expect this guy to get a few months.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/07/us/politics/capitol-riot-investigation-plea-deals.html
At a recent hearing for Richard Barnett, an Arkansas man perhaps best known for being photographed with his feet propped up on a desk in Speaker Nancy Pelosis office, prosecutors said that they had offered a deal that could result in a sentence of 70 to 87 months in prison. Mr. Barnetts lawyer, Steven Metcalf, later said he was disappointed with the proposal and could not understand why the government was offering so much time to a man who had not broken anything nor hurt anyone inside the Capitol.

When he gets out, he can watch Harris run the country.
Nothing more fitting for a dead end, racist, trump-humper.

(45,003 posts)But a solid 82 months for all these insurrectionists while be a good thing for the USA
sentences will all vary, mainly depending on whether insurrectionists were more or less armed the way he was, and who/what they did harm to. No matter the differences, yeah, months in jail will indeed be a good thing for the USA.

SEVEN YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON.
As Richard Barnett's family burned through their life's savings in legal fees, sold both their cars and their house ...he has now turned to a Public Defender who has worked out a plea deal of 82 months NO PAROLE.
I hope this idiot enjoyed himself

(7,611 posts)That plea bargains were being discussed and it did talk specifically about Barnett getting an offer in that range. But the tweet is off. A federal sentence comes with a chance at parole I think at 15% off the sentence. I think there are problems with the tweet.
In the federal system the actual power of sentencing rests with the judge. Usually a plea bargain involves the US Atty. agreeing to recommend a specific sentence. They don't have the power to impose a sentence. Only the judge can do that.

(25,554 posts)Most people here realize that if the shoe were on the other foot and it was Democrats and liberals storming the capital, they be calling for the death penalty, probably public hangings or shootings by firing squad. Possibly drawing and quartering or even caged rats eating into the faces of the Democrats. There is no limit to these peoples hypocrisy and evil.
On edit: This is what the character meant in the film Pulp Fiction but he talked about going medieval on someone.

I would accept six to seven years with parole as an option at year five.
