(3,564 posts)Then there are his friends overseas that might want a piece of him,
1. Russian Oligarchs that he owes money,
2. Putin, in case his relationship to the Russian government becomes problematic,
3. Iran, cause he did authorize the killing of a member of their leadership team,
4. Kurds,
5. North Korea and South Korea - not sure who he pissed off most.
Hell, now that I think of it, I wouldnt get on a plane that he was on.

(3,404 posts)Bank fraud, tax fraud, money laundering....
Campaign finance fraud for the whole family for the inauguration funds....big enough to send Michael Cohen to the big house.
Criminal or civil, get him under oath in depositions and there will be many more criminal charges.

(18,486 posts)It will probably be years before anyone can get him under oath in the civil litigation depositions.
And prosecutors can't "just indict" people in criminal investigations. If they want to get to trial and obtain a conviction, they need to build a very rock solid case. They need much more than what would be enough for you or I to believe he's guilty as sin.

(3,404 posts)Average time to get to Trial is about a year and we are looking at a few of them are pushing the 4 year mark now. Cy Vance has All the evidence from Trumps tax returnsas well as Deutscha bank loan record. E Jean Carol has the supreme courts permission to dipose Trump. Manifort, Gates, Stone and Cohen got convictions and time in 18 months.....this has everything to do with prosecuting a former President.
Justice matters.

I bet he will tell all.

(32,639 posts)One of Donald Trumps first actions as President was to fire US Attorney Preet Bharara. The move was met with widespread condemnation. Bharara had become a hero in New York City after prosecuting a number of the citys worst financial cheats.
The former US Attorney now works as a distinguished scholar at NYU and hosts a couple of podcasts. Bharara recently talked about Trumps New York City legal troubles with Slates Dahlia Lithwick.
- snip -
Bharara responded, The one that we know about most directly and most prominently is the one you mentioned, the Manhattan district attorneys investigation into Trumps finances and business dealings. I dont know because Ive not been in the grand jury, Ive not interviewed the witnesses. Cy Vance doesnt call me up and tell me stuff, but there is some signaling going on.
The former US Attorney continued, Hes (Cy Vance) done something else that is less common, which is hire an outside lawyer, Mark Pomerantz, whos a very distinguished, well-respected lawyer in New York. Im not going to put too much weight on it, but it seems like the kind of move you make when you believe that theres going to be a charge or theres a good likelihood of a charge, because its a pretty public thing to do.

The fact that AG Vance has hired an outside prosecutor to handle the litigation is a sure sign that it's all on the front-burner.

(2,541 posts)Like they did with Capone. I would be happy with just a simple tax fraud charge as long as it put him in jail. Long as he is in jail for a longtime whether its for killing 100,000s of Americans or trying to overthrow the government or lying on a bank document/tax form I dont care he would at least be in jail.
Curious DU- did you tell One Nation the ad spend here was kind of pointless? I am seeing tons of adds telling me to tell Sinema or Manchin to vote no on HR1 / SB1...

(33,345 posts)Worst case scenario for anything he's facing is: he pays a fine. Ex-Presidents don't go to jail.
He still has his 75 million dollar IRS refund; that will cover any penalty he faces. The JCOT doesn't appear to be doing jack shit about it.

(33,345 posts)We need action to occur PRIOR to the midterms, but Trump's MO has been delay delay delay in the Courts.
And it's worked to this point.
