This should come as no surprise if you are on DU, because we have known for 5 years now that this is now the party of drumpf, but today's vote cemented that for all the world to see.
The descent from political party into chaos is complete. And they will only get worse from here. The chance of any politician that does not show completely fidelity to drumpf and the party's efforts to turn America into a dictatorship even running for office are now gone.
There will be a small number of holdouts for the "good old days" of the GOP... Cheney, maybe Romney, Meghan McCain... but put yourself in the shoes of someone that is maybe 20 years old. Perhaps your admired presidents like Eisenhower or Reagan, maybe you looked up to a person like Romney. Liz Cheney didn't just get expelled today, so did that 20 year old.
The message was clear.
This is drumpf's party.
Whatever was left of the GOP died today.
Conspiracy theories will reign.
And that 20 year old? You are not welcome here, or wanted here. Kiss the ring, or go to hell.
Democrats should no longer refer to the "GOP" when referring to the other party. It should be the POT. The Party of trump. Messaging matters. They have put their heads in the noose. Hang them with it. Hammer it home that there is NO difference between ANY of these people, and drumpf.

(25,534 posts)Everybody's been telling her this for the longest time and she only saw it was true when someone she considered just like herself, a true conservative, was affected. She's been smugly saying the party can fix itself within the party, now she knows that's not true.

(25,534 posts)changed the subject by blaming the Biden administration for high gas prices, that last year under Trump gas prices were low. Just when you think, oh, she's saying something reasonable, she ruins it.

(14,757 posts)Nothing will happen. Some republicans will be very concerned, and they will deliberate carefully, and then they will do nothing and say what they are told.
They have been warned. They have their exaqmple.
Nothing here is a watershed. It's just a whimper and a tear.

(362 posts)Its certainly a watershed moment.
From now on, whenever a Republican brings up anything related to Trump, Ill simply say I agree with what Liz Cheney said about him.
That should either end the conversation immediately, drive the Republican into paroxysms of rage, or possibly even net muted agreement.
In other words, a win-win!
