You still want to wear a mask. Here are the things you may face.
Angry maskholes screaming at you for wearing one
Other vaccinated people angry you havent been vaccinated, thinking you are wearing one cause you werent vaccinated.
Other vaccinated people judging you for being more prudent.
All the while doing something right is punished while being a selfish fucking asshole for 16 months is rewarded. See they were right all along. NO MASKS.
I have had it.
This new guidance will do zero to increase vaccinations. It will lead to less people getting one.

(92,227 posts)and avoid those who don't.
I will do this for some time now, even after 70% have been vaccinated, since the 30% who refuse to get vaccinated, not those who can't because of health reasons, will still be wandering around coughing on people

(102,297 posts)many locales are falling back from the strictest absolute indoor mask mandates to the statewide (which requires masking indoors if the daily incidence of new COVID-19 is greater or equal to 35/100,000). So for many counties, the mask ordinances remain in place. Daily case 7-day average is 120/100,000 where I am currently, so nothing is going to change any time soon.
I urge all to go to their state (usually the Governor's COVID-19 page) and local health department webpages to find out the situation in your own state and city/county. Don't assume.

(13,070 posts)It is no big deal.
If you are vaccinated, just understand that you are not at risk of either getting infected or spreading infections.

(36,222 posts)I do not want it ever again. EVER.
So excuse me for being a bit hesitant on this new guidance when there are litearally over 150 million unvaccinated.
And YES I have had both moderna and they werent a walk in the park for me. It hits people who had covid harder. I wont go into it but it wasnt pleasant. None of it was.
So take you snyde casual remarks and keep them to yourself. You aint walked in my shoes. And I fully understand what cometh for those who wish to continue masking.

(13,070 posts)but understand that, despite all your trouble, your current risk, as a vaccinated person, is negligible.
Or not. You can of course ignore the science.
I can't believe the reverse-perverse maskholery going on here.

(9,998 posts)I think it's a 100% certainty that anyone who is a big enough ASSHOLE to not get vaccinated, will also not be wearing a mask.
I would never think that someone I see wearing a mask, was someone who refused the vaccine. The two don't go together.
What I'm trying to say is that someone responsible enough to continue wearing a mask, most likely was responsible enough to get vaccinated.

(36,222 posts)You are suppose to wear a mask if unvaccinated.
The majority hear one thing and think nothing beyond what they heard.

(9,998 posts)I've given up on trying to understand the vast majority of Americans. I'm going to continue doing what I feel safest with. If that means wearing a mask, and having people think I'm not vaccinated, so be it. I've been vaccinated, so that's all that matters.

(53,791 posts)with other known, fully vaccinated people. With this ruling anyone can say they're fully vaccinated with no way to check.
IMO it's too early for just a blanket ruling like this.
Outdoor spaces of course would be considered safe.

(36,745 posts)Fuck them. Ill wear my damn mask wherever and whenever I WANT.
They spread other viruses like norovirus and influenza, especially their snot nosed spawns.
Ive had a wonderful 18 months or so without flu or norovirus and I damn well intend to keep it that way.

(32,645 posts)I'm still wearing my mask even though I'm fully vaccinated. I don't go out often, but I still do some grocery shopping once a week. I'll buy takeout food & gas occasionally. Any time I'm around people I don't know, I'll still wear my mask. At least for the time being, because I'm not comfortable with this crap.
What I hate more than anything is how this has been politicized to the point where nobody is thinking anymore. It's all knee-jerk reaction, and that's how Chump has ruined our country.
Our Grandchildren will grow up thinking this is all normal behavior. But WE KNOW this isn't normal. Trust your own noggin, and do the best you can. None of us are going to win the lottery.

(4,170 posts)But as for the rest, I couldnt care less what people think of me when I wear a mask. I started wearing one before most people did and before they recommended it. Ill be wearing it in public indoor spaces despite being vaccinated. My bout with the virus is nothing I want to repeat.

(21,949 posts)The only way to stop the virus is to reach herd immunity. Herd immunity does NOT mean that 70-80% of the population has to get vaccinated. It means enough people have to have antibody protection from the virus that the R number the average number of people infected by a single person who is infected significantly decreases, ideally to below 1.
The more people who are vaccinated, the harder it is for an infected person to infect someone else, because the virus has nowhere to go. Ive done my part to reduce the R number by getting vaccinated, as have millions of others.
But theres another group that is helping to lower the R number, and that is people who get infected with Covid. Those people either survive, in which case they have some measure of protection (not as good as the vaccine, but it still hinders transmission), or they die, in which case they cant infect anyone else.
So really to get to herd immunity you need to add the number of people who have gotten the vaccine to the number of people who have already been infected. No doubt there is a fair bit of overlap between those groups, but the total is a lot bigger than just the number of people who been vaccinated.
I got the vaccine, so Ive done my part to help prevent community spread. Im confident that my chance of catching Covid is very low, and if I should catch Covid it wont be a severe case and my chance of spreading it is very low.
Meanwhile, the dopes who refuse to get vaccinated and refuse to wear masks are also doing their part. By infecting each other, they are creating antibodies that will help to mitigate community spread. The big difference is that those people stand a significantly higher chance of dying of Covid than I do, but thats their choice and if they want to risk choking to death on a ventilator, thats up to them.
And, those people now have a significantly lower chance of infecting others. Before we had the vaccine, we all had to be extremely careful because any of us could get infected, and it could easily lead to death. Hospitals were being overwhelmed, and nursing homes were disaster areas. Now that we have a reliable vaccine, many, many lives are being saved, and it really has become a choice either stop the virus by getting vaccinated, or stop the virus by taking no precautions, getting infected, then either surviving with antibody protection, or dying. If people want to choose the latter, I cant stop them.
I understand that there is still concern over reinfections among the unvaccinated, and mutant variants. But all the data so far seems to indicate that we are heading in the right direction. I would much prefer people get vaccinated because it is more effective, fewer people will die, and this will all be over sooner, but people who wont get vaccinated or wear masks or take precautions are still helping. Its just that now, post-vaccine, theyre almost entirely gambling with their own lives and with each others lives, and not my life or my family or friends, because we all got vaccinated.
Maybe IM the selfish one for thinking that way, but if the unvaccinated anti-maskers wont listen to reason, I dont think theres anything I can do to change their minds.
