My Brooklyn political club has decided to endorse "nobody" for Mayor.....

As announced, IND held a Special Membership meeting this evening to discuss the club's Mayoral endorsement, given recent allegations against Scott Stringer. After a lengthy, respectful discussion, club members voted to move forward with "No Endorsement" in the Mayor's race. While individual club members will continue to support various mayoral candidates, IND as a club will focus our attention on our slate of Endorsed Candidates for Borough President, City Council, and Judicial races. Thank you to everyone who attended and made their voice heard.

I don't think DeBlasio was considered a top tier candidate early on, yet he wound up winning the primary and election. So it sounds like your club is doing the right thing.
