Capitol Police Officer Condemns GOP Gaslighting On Insurrection
Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who fought off Donald Trump-supporting rioters during the Jan. 6 insurrection, expressed astonishment Friday at Republican attempts to rewrite the history of the violence.
“They were there with a purpose to hurt people. They had bad intentions,” Dunn told CNN’s “New Day” of the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol. Five people died, including a Capitol Police officer, and more than 140 officers were injured.
“It just hurts to believe that people can think that it was a normal day, it was a tour,” Dunn said, citing some of the GOP truth-altering. “It’s hurtful that they can say things like that when we had officers give their life to make sure that they were safe.”
Though the riot was well documented by video and eyewitness accounts, GOP lawmakers on Wednesday tried to present it as something far different than what it was. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) said during a House Oversight Committee hearing that it looked like “a normal tour visit.” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz) claimed it was police “harassing peaceful patriots.”

Cop Nearly Killed By Trump Mob Rips GOP For ‘Peddling Bullshit’ On U.S. Capitol Riot
A D.C. police officer who was captured by the Jan. 6 mob at the U.S. Capitol and nearly beaten to death is calling out Republican lawmakers who are openly denying the violence that happened that day.
Officer Michael Fanone told CNN’s Don Lemon:
“I’m not interested in getting into political squabbles. I’m not a politician. I’m not an elected official. I don’t expect anybody to give two shits about my opinions. But I will say this: Those are lies. And peddling that bullshit is an assault on every officer that fought to defend the Capitol. It’s disgraceful.”

The mob, egged on by then-President Donald Trump, was attempting to stop the certification of the 2020 election and keep Trump, who lost, in power. Many Republicans have since tried to defend Trump, and they’ve canceled anyone in the party who dared to criticize him. State and local GOP bodies have censured Republicans for speaking out, and this week, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) was purged from party leadership in the House for blaming Trump for the insurrection and calling out his lies about the election.

confront the Capitol Police force in formation and tell them what they are telling the American people at large. Would love to see Gosar and Clyde stand toe to toe with Officer Fanone and other seriously injured officers that day and explain to them how this is all a made up lie, that the people were all peaceful and patriotic.
That’s not exactly true. What I’d really like to see -- or hear about -- is the craven lying cowards in the GOP meet, individually, with the Capitol Police in a darkened room, hand-cuffed to a metal table that is bolted to the concrete floor. Just to answer questions, of course.
