Investigation: Marjorie Taylor Greene filed homestead exemptions on 2 homes, violating state law
A homestead exemption is a big tax break any Georgia homeowner is entitled to for their primary residence. It is against the law to file for more than one.

ATLANTA A Channel 2 Action News investigation has found that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her husband have two active homestead exemptions, which is against Georgia law.
A homestead exemption is a big tax break any Georgia homeowner is entitled to for their primary residence. It is against the law to file for more than one.
But Channel 2 investigative reporter Justin Gray pulled records showing that the Greenes are getting the tax break on two different homes in two different counties.
In a statement, Greenes office told Gray to mind his own business and called it a pathetic smear when he asked them about the homestead exemptions.
Greene still owns a North Fulton county home, but also bought a $610,000 house in Floyd County last year in the 14th Congressional district, which she represents.
A member of Congress does not have to live in the district they represent. But what you legally cannot do, is file multiple homestead exemptions.

She will get it swept under the rug.......Of all the corrupt and criminal behavior this past five years, look at how many Republicans have gotten off scott free for even much more corrupt and criminal behavior.......It would be far easier to list the ones that actually got charged with anything, especially after Trump waved his Pardon wand......

(22,264 posts)she would lose the exemption on the one that is not her primary residence, and owe back taxes plus interest for the years in which she paid exempted taxes on the second property. In Texas, the primary residence is where you are registered to vote. If the non primary residence has the higher taxes, too bad so sad; homeowner only gets the exemption on the one home.
I do not know the law inside out, but there are most likely assorted fees and penalties attached.
After all, this is fraud, the taxes are underpaid, late fees and interest would apply I would love to be the escrow officer at her mortgagae company explaining it all to her
Our homestead exemption is fairly hefty, then it increases when we reach age 65

(16,193 posts)It is amazing to me the states that give this to someone owning 2 houses or making the money a member of Congress makes.

(4,007 posts)her husband as called for by Pres. Biden in a chat with the commissioner. The odds are VERY high they are Federal tax cheats. Then, the FBI can get called in and issue a warning to the GA state and county officials that they likely also cheated on their taxes in GA.
Pass the popcorn.

(2,596 posts)And yes, the IRS could come after her too. As to the fraud involved here, I'm not sure that a homeowner/taxpayer gets to get off so easily with a whoopsie, I screwed up.

(8,090 posts)so she does have some real-world experience. She's just fucking insane. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) was home-schooled, flunked out of one semester of college, and has no working experience other than Chik-fil-A. He's clearly unqualified. I wouldn't say he's insane, he's just a privileged, slimy little shit who was raised on Limbaugh and FUX "News." Kinda like Boebert and Kayleigh Mc-what's-her-name. An entire generation has been raised on right-wing media and that *ain't* good.

(10,018 posts)Today, you can assume that any person running for office as a Republican is a crook or a sexual predator and be right most of the time. There may be a few honest ones left, but they are an endangered species in that party.

(1,910 posts)For over 30 years we have had exemptions on various houses and always only had ONE at a time. You get one for your primary residence, end of story. Its common knowledge and something that we make sure to do.
The fact these Repugs do illegal stuff like this over and over and over again and never seem to pay a price gets old.

(11,564 posts)I guess it's not shocking that that would be their "office culture," but is it not customary for staffers to show at least superficial deference to the office?
On the topic at hand...I can't believe anyone would try that. How can that not be the easiest thing to discover and prosecute?
SMC22307
(8,090 posts)That's one of the things that really bothers me about Taylor Green, Boebert, and Cawthorn (and their staff)... the lack of respect shown toward the office, the Capitol, to coworkers, etc. Any of us acted like that on the job and we'd be canned.
