Subpoena Issued in Probe of Trump Ambassador Pick
May 16, 2021 at 7:08 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has begun issuing subpoenas in a criminal investigation into the nomination of San Diego developer Douglas F. Manchester as ambassador to the Bahamas by former President Donald Trump,” the San Diego Union Tribune reports.

“The case appears to focus on the Republican National Committee and its two senior leaders, and possibly members of Congress.”

Every move by Trump is transactional.

If the DOJ were to go back and listen to Trump’s phone calls, they’d probably find dozens of instances of graft and bribery.

But don't parties do that to some extent? Not sell it outright but big donors and those who deserve a reward?

There's no doubt in my mind that Trump used the power of the office of the president to illegally generate a big cash flow, from domestic and foreign sources.

Prosecutors need to review all of Trump's phone calls, and emails, and find the offshore accounts where he stashed everything.

From the link via outline.com

According to the grand jury reference number listed on the documents, the investigation was opened last year — before Trump left the White House.

Weeks after Manchester withdrew his nomination, emails surfaced indicating that Manchester was at the center of a possible “pay-to-play” arrangement with the Republican National Committee.

In November 2019, CBS News disclosed exchanges between McDaniel and Manchester that implied the San Diego developer would make additional contributions after winning confirmation.

Manchester told the Union-Tribune at the time that the emails were misconstrued.

“It wasn’t what everyone is trying to make of it,” he said then. “They are trying to make it a pay-for-play, which it is not. I never in fact guaranteed to do anything.”

Douglas Frederick Manchester (born June 3, 1942) is an American businessman and philanthropist. He is the former chairman of Manchester Financial Group, past chairman and publisher of The San Diego Union-Tribune, and an unsuccessful nominee to become United States Ambassador to the Bahamas.[1][2] Manchester, who prefers to be called "Papa Doug",[3] has built some of the tallest hotels and office buildings in San Diego, including the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina and the Manchester Grand Hyatt, and is credited as a driving force behind the development of the San Diego Convention Center.[3] Manchester also built the triple 5-star Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa, which was sold to Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in 2015, and he maintains a minority ownership.[4] Manchester also built the Torrey Executive Centre, Manchester Financial Building, Whitetail Lodge and Golf Club, Fairmont Austin and is currently building the Manchester Pacific Gateway.[5]

Manchester has long been involved in conservative politics and with the Republican Party. In late 2019, the Republican National Committee (RNC) cut all ties with Manchester after CBS News obtained emails between Manchester, Ronna McDaniel, and GOP senate staffers in which Manchester appeared to be engaged in a pay-to-play scheme. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported in May 2021 that a federal grand jury had issued a subpoena in a criminal investigation into his nomination as ambassador, apparently focused on the RNC, McDaniel and RNC co-chair Tommy Hicks, and possibly members of Congress.[6]

he is hosed if that is his defense. The gubberment doesn't need to come up with a signed contract that details the transaction.

They don't even need to prove it was ever completed. Not being appointed does not mean he broke no laws.

All they gotta show is there was discussion and coordination. Buh buh falicia.

Stephen Calk. He's been indicted for bribery and going to trial in June of this year.

This sounds similar. Hopefully McDaniel is ensnared.

Finding that the Republicans were not, in fact, open for business must have left a bad taste in his mouth. I hope.
