Anti-maskers and COVID deniers have been yelling about 'freedom' since the pandemic began. Now many

of them are standing in the way of America's actual freedom.

America's anti-maskers have become America's anti-vaxxers.

Their argument against these common-sense precautions is personal freedom. The only problem with this logic, or lack thereof, is that their claims to freedom are causing the rest of us to lose ours.

It would be nice to be able to dine inside with no worry, go to the movies in a packed theater, or enjoy any of the other freedoms we enjoyed before the pandemic. But that will be impossible to do with the threat of COVID - unless we reach a certain threshold of the population who are vaccinated, probably around 80%. Who is preventing us from reaching that threshold? The 1 in 4 Americans who say they'll refuse to get vaccinated.

You've heard GOP Rep. Gym Jordan pounding the table, asking when we're going to live our lives again. In a recent congressional hearing with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Jordan demanded to know the precise moment the world will be back to normal and harangued the infectious disease specialist about basic safety measures. By undermining Dr. Fauci, Jordan is in turn undermining our efforts to get back to normal. As Dr. Fauci expressed, it's a paradox that Republicans legislators simply cannot seem to wrap their minds around.

That's why trumpf was popular with the (r)epugs. It's all about retribution and revenge.

They've never wanted a functioning democracy.

They must get their pay from other sources.

We WILL get to herd immunity--and part of that darwininan process is that the weak and stupid die.

Now, in your defense, yes it would be lovley for all of us to have a 'normal' july 4th holiday, but that's still a year off imho.

At this point, protect YOURSELF, and the ones that wont help either you or themselves with that, honestly wont be a problem this time next year.

Keep in mind, when the FDA approves non-emergency use, a lot of companies will start mandating getting vaccinated in order to get or keep a job. And while that will kick off a whole new round of nonsense from these folks, it WILL ALSO be a kick in the balls to get their heads outta their asses.

Pay it forward. I actually heard it on the Bob Cesca Podcast from David Ferguson, his Goth Ninja cohort with Jodie Hamilton. Stephanie Miller’s Sexy Liberal podcast network. A must site of multiple lefties, the likes of John Fugelsang, Hal Sparks, Frangela, Stephanie’s happy Hour with amazing guests and many more. FREE!!!! Bobs Show, 3 per week, is the happiest you can be without touching.

The problem with letting Darwin take its course is that the more people that have the virus, the more opportunities it has to mutate into something that the vaccine doesn't prevent.

I get it that anti-vaxxers getting sick taxes our medical system in its entirety and all that. I've been schooled on that right here on DU. However, I still feel that as you say, Darwinian logic tells us that this is the universe culling out the morons. The fact that those morons are almost all republicans is simply a flukey bit of good fortune for us. Many of them are young and healthy enough to not die from covid, but what they don't seem to realize is that it could very likely leave them with permanently defective heart and/or lungs, and research shows that it can cause erectile dysfunction (not affected by Viagra) in men. Wow..willing to fight against wearing a mask so they can give up sex for the rest of their lives. Morons. We will get to our 80%, if not through vaccinations then through morons having immunity through antibodies they got when they had the virus. Physically impaired and some celibate, but immune.

If they make it an oral vaccine, we may find out that a whole lot of those idiots were just afraid of needles.

fully vaccinated (my sons still need second shots, waiting for that to be done). I've worn my mask diligently and will continue to do so if required somewhere. I think it's time to move on from this as people are able to protect themselves, with either vaccine or mask or both. Unless local hospitals fill up, or the vaccinated start dropping like flies from new mutations, I don't see any reason not to start returning to normal. I mean, a certain number of people are going to contract and maybe die from all sorts of pathogens, no matter what, and we accept that. We need to accept a certain level of risk with covid too.
