When former Dallas County prosecutor Richard E. Jackson put two homeless Black men on trial in 2000 for the murder of a local pastor, he allegedly withheld a heap of evidence that could have cleared them.
Witnesses couldnt pick the suspects out of a lineup, neither of the men matched descriptions provided to investigators, and prosecutors had brokered secret deals with jailhouse informants for favorable testimony, appeals court papers would later show.
In separate trials, jurors heard none of it. Jackson got his convictions, and Dennis Allen and Stanley Mozee were sentenced to life in prison. Only after an extensive review by the Innocence Project and Jacksons successors were the men exonerated 14 years later.
Now, after two decades of legal wrangling, Jackson has been disbarred from practicing law in Texas, in a rare example of severe punishment for misconduct in a wrongful conviction case.

(3,570 posts)So doesnt give a fuck.
Officials try to seem like theyre doing the right thing but when you really examine what theyve done its all bullshit.
Want to punish the former prosecutor, give him a 5 to 10 year sentence with parole. Take half the pay he received for all those years and give as compensation to the victims.
Then, the prosecutor didnt do this all by himself - round up the whole filthy gang.
And, one has to wonder about the culture of Dallas County prosecutors office.

(15,943 posts)Richard E. Jackson is part if the problem and there are many more like him serving as our prosectors. They are white suprematist who are more than happy to lock up the black population so they can never vote and they are more than willing to make a mockery of our justice system.
So, Richard E. Jackson should be in prison for 28 years for defrauding the justice system.
