MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A total of 25 AR-15 rifles are missing from the Miami Police Department, according to CBS4’s news partner the Miami Herald.

An internal memo obtained by the Miami Herald was sent out Wednesday morning listing serial numbers of the missing rifles, along with a warning that if the guns were not returned no later than Monday, they will be reported stolen.

“The city of Miami Police Department is a large police agency, they are responsible for thousands of thousands upon pieces of property, so this is just one prime example of property that unfortunately is unaccounted for,” said Stuart Kapman, a former FBI Special Agent.

Kaplan believes the likely whereabouts of the missing guns does not have a nefarious twist.

9. A cop I went to high school with quit the force

because Kroger started staying open 24 hours a day. He couldn't shop when they were closed anymore and couldn't afford to pay for groceries with cop wages. It is sad but with what the city payed I could understand.

6. Isn't there CCTV/Surveillance cameras on the inventory they are charged to keep safe, RIGHT?

I'd wager a bet that they have been sent to the oath keepers, or some other terrorist group.

Entirely possible -- but the fact is, you don't KNOW. And, if things were handled properly -- you WOULD know. But, hey, you know -- a screwdriver or a box of thumbtacks here or there ....
