(16,395 posts)Which seems to be, based on what Ive read in the anti CDC threads, that the vaccine is not the least bit effective.

(9,952 posts)tells me I can believe them telling me my load will be light, good to hear that light load makes it hard to give to others so I will not kill, and covers variants. Me and mine a vacc'ed and th9ose refusing the opportunity to be vacc'ed are on their own.

I have not read a single person who disagrees with the CDC on this issue (1st strawman: anti CDC) who has even come close to suggesting that "the vaccine is not the least bit effective" (2nd strawman)

(12,409 posts)The vaccine is not a " shield"...It is a vaccine that programs the immune system to attack the invading covid-19 virus and destroy it.... I realize that also that the viral load is stifled by said immune response and is less likely to reach a level where infection to others will happen...This all depends upon the vaccinated individuals immune response capabilities...

(153,169 posts)The risk is acceptable to me. Both are unlikely in vaccinated people.
yet another one who thinks it is all about YOU
You seem to think I should not listen to the science and do something that makes you feel better.
You are the one who thinks it's all about YOU.
yes, crazy to care about docs, nurses, first responders

(1,495 posts)quarantine for 14 days. I was surprised. If an infected fully vaccinated person cannot spread Covid, it is really necessary for them to miss work for 2 weeks and stay home?

(11,949 posts)Was of virus load in breakthrough cases. It is so small that they are not considered a risk to spread the virus.
The CDC actually thought of this. You know, like smart scientist do.

(7,412 posts)DR. FAUCI: Good question, JOHN. And what the- what the issue is, is that the level of virus in your nasal pharynx, which is correlated with whether or not you were going to transmit it to someone else, is considerably lower. So even though there are breakthrough infections with vaccinated people, almost always the people are asymptomatic, and the level of virus is so low, it makes it extremely unlikely, not impossible, but very, very low likelihood that they are going to transmit it.

(23,548 posts)I'm curious what the numbers are now.
dalton99a
(81,515 posts)About 1,000 people who.were vaccinated later became sick enough with covod to need hospitalization...including a little over 200 who died from it. That's out of 115 million fully vaccinated.
So the odds of a serious breakthrough infection are about 1 in 100,000. And a death being 1 in 500,000. Numbers could be skewed a bit in either direction since we could assume that early vaxxers are also more likely to engage in other mitigation efforts or that early vaxxers are the most vulnerable to seriois infection.

(2,025 posts)I think Pfizer and Moderna claim about 94% effective. Not 100%. That's why I don't understand why so many people seem to be surprised when somebody who has been fully vaccinated gets Covid. Of course a few people will still get it. Getting your shots still cuts way down on your chances of getting sick. Get your shots, y'all. Do your part to help make this damn plague go away.

(778 posts)It wasn't something I paid attention to while I was reading the story. I'm sure we are all aware that the vaccine is not 100% effective and I bumped into an article about it and wanted to share it here. My mistake.

(26,587 posts)when everyone is going maskless, with lots of virus still circulating. If you're exposed to more virus are you more likely to get a breakthrough infection?

(3,282 posts)A real difference in infection trajectory between states with mask mandates and those who dropped them over past few months.

(26,587 posts)Even in places with no mask mandates, the type of people who tend to get vaccinated are also the type who are more likely to follow masking and social distancing guidelines.
I'm taking a wait and see approach.
