Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious diseases expert said Tuesday that it's "perfectly reasonable and understandable" for businesses to keep mandates in place following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recent guidance on fully vaccinated people and masks.
The CDC on Thursday issued new guidance stating that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear a mask indoors or outdoors or to maintain social distancing. The announcement, however, has garnered confusion and rebuke from front-line workers and nurses.
Speaking to ABC News's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday, Fauci acknowledged that the guidance poses a challenge for businesses because there's no way of knowing that someone is vaccinated.
"The problem and the issue is that we don't have any way of knowing who is vaccinated and who's not vaccinated," Fauci said.

(1,495 posts)I sure hope the vaccine is effective as they say. I don't want to get even a mild case of Covid. I know some people who had mild cases and still have issues like a year after recovery.

will they be able to pull dates out of their ass and know whether Pfizer was a three week or four weeks between injections?
Can they keep their mouths shut? I doubt it.
I still think it will fall to insurance companies to press businesses to require evidence.

(146,336 posts)Of course, requiring vaccination of all employees is another option. But, once the masks come off, it will be impossible to tell who is and is not vaccinated.
That said, there are plenty of people here who think there is no risk to having everyone unmask. I disagree, which has caused me some grief in other threads.
There is even an attitude that says, "Let the mask refusers get sick. Why should we care?" I won't even dignify that response with a reply. We care because we care. It is that simple. I do not want anyone to get sick from COVID-19. Period. If we do not care, we are not really thinking clearly, it seems to me.

(2,636 posts)Businesses will and are requiring masks or proof of vaccine.
Airlines are fining heavily and putting people on no fly lists for screwing around. Hospitals are asking their staff to vaxx or resign. As non emergency use is authorized, businesses can mandate proof, because their liability insurance will demand it, no?
These same people will also scream when the US begins to donate its leftover vaccines to developing nations.
