A rare (for me) encounter with a Drumpf/MUSK lover.

It was a driver for one of those call-in outfits. I've always been a chatter, or tried to engage people out of robot roles, when they're amenable. Most times with remorse as an outcome.

We talked about his recent graduation with a degree in IT after his rough journey in dropping out of school three times, and his hopes for his prospects, which he’s fairly secure about. Smart dude. Inevitably, I turned it to politics and sure enough he turned out to be one of those “fair minded” types although leaning heavily/fully to the DRUMPF side. First he bemoaned the horrible polarization, but knee-jerked over to the “BOTH SIDES do it.” I zapped THAT to an immediate shut-down. Then, with real gentlemanliness, he said, “If you want, we can just not talk about politics if it bothers you.” I said that my reaction would not be an explosive, psychotic outbreak, although I would be clear about delineating the wingnut errors, that I would feel frustration and banging my head on a brick wall but wouldn’t EXPLODE. So I gave him a brief history about how LIMBAUGH resuscitated what had been the discredited state of the lunatic wingnut movement and instituted the polarization/Scorched Earth thing we’re in now. We chatted on and ended civilly, me acknowledging we would never coincide.

Repeating, one of the eternal questions, how can a DECENT human ever be a wingnut, not a question.

They either condone the racism, anti-democratic authoritarianism, the fascism of current Republican leadership, or they are cowards stuck in USSR/Nazi Germany-style “double think” where they secretly oppose these things but are afraid to give voice to their opposition. Not even to themselves. The assault on their constructed tribal identities would be too strong to tolerate.

They are not nice people. They are not our friends. We must move forward without them.

Am not taken in by this one's being well-spoken. I don't need to be convinced.

7. They see everything as a binary choice. In politics they see either

Trumpism or Socialism. Once deciding which side they are going to be on, they are in Full Monty, on a one-way street, with blinders; in for a penny in for the whole damn thing.
