Amy Coney Barrett received money for speaking several times in front of a program run by a deeply conservative Christian organization that helped create the law at the center of a Supreme Court case that’s threatening to eradicate legalized abortion across the U.S.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) describes itself as a bastion of “advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith,” but it’s more than that. Over the last several years, it’s emerged as the powerhouse legal arm of the American right wing. It has deep pockets, employs dozens of lawyers worldwide, and is affiliated with thousands more. Devoted to fighting the GOP’s so-called “culture wars” over issues like abortion and LGBTQ+ rights, it’s been designated an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Since 2011, Barrett has spoken to students at ADF’s Blackstone Legal Fellowship Program five times, according to disclosure forms that Barrett filed to the Senate Judiciary Committee ahead of her confirmation hearing last year. She last spoke to them in 2016, before she was confirmed in 2017 to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

Ahead of that 2017 confirmation, Barrett submitted a financial disclosure form to the Senate that said between 2015 and 2016, she’d received two payments from the ADF, each for $2,100, the Washington Post reported.

if they got rid of Roe v Wade. The money isn't in getting rid of it, it's in saying you're going to, saying you want to, and speaking to others who want to.

Once it's gone, they would be like the dog that caught the car then didn't know what to do with it.

And trust me, they know this. The existence of Roe v Wade, along with guns and LGBTQ rights, are probably responsible for most of their fund raising, speaking fees and book sales.

has been a proven money-maker for them for fifty years. Why change gears on a sure thing?

Honestly, If we let them make abortion illegal, let every one have any guns they want, and cut taxes all they want, the republican party would have little reason to exist.

No way do they want a world where their mistresses couldn't abort their babies easily, people are bringing guns to their rallies and a counry so bankrupt they couldn't load spending bills with pork.

Thanks for joining me in a conversation where I'm just letting my mind run loose in this direction for now.

The rich always did, even back in the old days.

You make good points, but I agree with the other poster.

Criminals always find ways to make money.
When booze became legal again, the bootleggers just went to drug sales.
They still had gambling and prostitution to bring in money.

Right now the GOP is bringing in a lot of money with trash talking lunatics.
Maybe they don't need the abortion issue any more.

The GOP crime syndicate is moving into the 21st century where conspiracy theories are the money makers.

Usually the girlfriend was paid off, so she kept quiet.

A nurse would pee into a cup to get a non- pregnant urine test result.
Then the doc did the procedure as a D and C which is legal and routine.

Nothing to blackmail on a normal procedure.
Nothing for the press to report.

If you are male, or young, you probably don't understand how the system worked back in the day.

I was in high school berore Roe v Wade. I knew a few girls that got abortions "legally" by going to Planned Parenthood, visiting a Psychiatrist a few times and being declared mentally unfit to carry the pregnancy to term. Basically a medical reason for an abortion due to the mental health of the mother. I have no idea how common this was. These were not rich kids or famous parents.

But there were also girls who went to their parents, snitched on the (older) guy and he got charged with statutory rape.

Or went to a foreign country for the procedure. I'm a well-read fan of Marilyn Monroe and I've read from more than one source that she went to Mexico and had an abortion during the filming of "Some Like it Hot" in San Diego.

She is intelligent enough to know that the inevitable result of the banning of abortion and denying women the right to control their own lives will be a return to the mass slaughter of post pubescent to menopausal women.

Of course she would not be the only gravid woman killer on the court.
