Honestly, I think indictments of Matt Gaetz and Rudy Giuliani are inevitable. For them, it's just a matter of when, not if.
Others--including members of the Trump family--could possibly also find themselves in the barrel.
But which big name will get indicted first?
Your thoughts, DU.

(3,981 posts)I think his wife may spill some stuff related to Epstein during the divorce proceedings.

The last choice is "Other surprise notable name (please specify)" which is what I clicked.
First off, divorce proceedings are not public in the first place.
Secondly, nobody in this day and age gives two shits what weird shit led to a divorce or whatever any spouse did during a marriage.
These notions of what goes on in divorce proceedings are based on some really outdated ideas of how divorce works.
There are, of course, instances in which colorful allegations are made in divorce proceedings for the sole purpose of either obtaining some kind of emotional satisfaction or leaking them to the press, but neither of the Gates seems predisposed toward satisfying the fantasies of National Enquirer readers.
But belief in "the great big global network of pedophiles" rolls on. The proof will drop any day now...
But under what scenario does Melinda Gates tell some long-hushed-up story about Bill Gates and a person who obviously made a living by networking with many prominent and wealthy people, and for what reason related to a divorce proceeding?

(8,387 posts)Who knows what one finds when one digs up Roger Stone's yard, though.
There's a long history of "So-and-so is about to be indicted" stuff that seems more like old time radio drama cliffhangers than things which actually pan out.
It would be interesting to put together a list of all the people over the years who were "about to be indicted", and are out walking the streets.

(8,387 posts)The FBI has had the relevant information for a long time.
It looks like Gaetz likely committed a state offense by having sex with a minor. It may be much harder to find a federal offense with which he can be charged with relative certainty of a conviction.
Please correct me if I am wrong by reference to relevant facts, but my (possibly incorrect) understanding is that this Joel Greenberg person found, recruited, or otherwise procured women and paid them for their attendance at parties, trips, etc., wherein there were drugs, sex and general debauchery.
These arrangements appear to have been structured in such a way that Gaetz can plausibly deny knowing about the payoffs. Absent a specific record of Gaetz making payments, or evidence of his knowledge that would convince a jury - in other words, more than "we really, really are pretty sure he knew about it" - then can someone point me to the specific part of the Greenberg plea agreement where it nails down something beyond "Gaetz snorted coke and had sex with women procured by Greenberg."
The part about him having sex with a prostitute in a hotel room that was paid out of campaign funds doesn't strike me as one that would go very far. If he was going to have that hotel room anyway, then getting into the business of policing what people do in their hotel rooms booked for a primary legitimate purpose is going to be quite an expansion of what it means to "mis-use campaign funds".
Again, I'd like to know the specific facts I missed which add up to a federal charge against Gaetz that would stick.
They had pretty solid evidence that Senator Menendez likely received similar favors from "friends" and couldn't convict him either. A good exercise would be to compare whatever is known about Gaetz to whatever was known about Menendez.
On the other hand, I will be SHOCKED if they don't come up with something on Giuliiani. It would probably be simpler to identify the criminal crimes he didn't commit.
