The GOP lives in a post truth society. Democrats cant fix that, but we do have an obligation to protect our democracy from them.
Wake up & smell the coffee. The filibuster must go. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

GOP Lies Fueled The Capitol Riot. Of Course They Don't Want A Panel To Expose That.
House Republicans opposed to a Jan. 6 commission also spread lies of a stolen election -- the same lies that led to the insurrection. They know that.

When the House voted Wednesday to pass a bill to create an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, 175 Republicans voted against it.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) caved on nearly all of the Republican Partys demands in crafting the legislation. The bill itself is bipartisan (35 Republicans supported it). The commission would be bipartisan, with members equally divided along party lines. Its members would have shared subpoena power. Its final report would be due by the end of the year instead of in 2022, when Republicans eyeing their reelection campaigns definitely dont want to be talking about that time President Donald Trump incited an attack on the U.S. Capitol that left five people dead, hundreds of police officers injured and countless others traumatized, all based on Republican-backed claims that the election was being stolen
Some Republicans argued that an independent commission would duplicate ongoing congressional and criminal investigations. But the same was true of the 9/11 commission, which is the model for the proposed Jan. 6 commission.
Some said Democrats just want to use the commission to badger Trump. But, again, it would be an independent, bipartisan panel with outside members, with the singular goal of examining what led to one of the darkest days in American history.

(1,299 posts)Of course I detest all the concessions to those folks who have no intention of fair and honest dealings, never mind suddenly finding it in them to uphold their oath of office.
And I hate to see too much stock put in this commission after the last 2o+ years. Sentient humans, those paying attention to actual reality and at least vaguely hip to how one might establish what 2 + 2 equals, are largely aware of the genesis of the insurrection, not to mention that it WAS an insurrection. Those still running around in their power garb and cosplaying with their avatar are not going to pay attention or change their minds, or what passes, no matter what the commission reveals.
If shame or consciences or any fealty to truth were in play here, it might be different. But why would they abandon their superpower?

(7,012 posts)It's as clear as the nose on our face. It's a great way to document it however, for future posterity. They could title it, "How A Number Of Americans Lost Their Fricken Minds".
The crude lawyer that said these were short bus people may be onto something. I would not phrase it that way, but these people were obviously delusional and pushed over the top by all of the gas lighting that went on with Faux and the majority of the Republican leadership.
