(14,855 posts)I keep seeing red states with higher percentages of Native Americans, who were the fastest to get vaccinated than any other ethnicity in this country, continuing to drop down the vaccination percentage lists too. South Dakota, for example.

(4,393 posts)Seems like it should have been in that top list of most vaccinated despite its "red" status politically, led by Gov DeWine, et al those GOP awful congress critters of tenure spouting GQP election and vaccine CTs. CoVidActNow claims +1 shot equals at 43.5% as of 5/20/21...
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... that I've seen.
Just about any listing of states in regard to anything seems to be that way.
There were reports that the Vaxamillion lottery caused a recent increase of vaccination rates here, so that's good, but I personally suspect it will prove to be very temporary.

(14,855 posts)That state is also the ONLY one that's not keeping track of the Covid vaccinations at the state level. So are they being recorded at the Federal level instead? (I don't know.)
I saw it mentioned in a USA Today article about possible vaccine passports, and how state health agencies could provide the verification (except in NH) if it was done.

(8,334 posts)Be it the Cape, York Beach, the big lake, Sacco river, Newport ( although I clearly dont have the money for that) Mystic or Nyantic, a New England vaca may be the ticket to cure the Covid blues.
Still do mostly outdoor activities, but at least start the social interaction with people on a face to face ( still masked up) level.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)I've never visited the Northeastern states! It's weird because I've at least passed through almost every other state otherwise, not including Alaska or Hawaii.
I'd like to visit that area someday. The closest for me was NJ.

(42,770 posts)Driving from TX. So refreshing! Everyone and I mean everyone in CT had masks on. They practiced social distancing even walking. Many restaurants had set up makeshift outdoor dining. They all just did it and went about their lives. No complaints.
Of course many lives were lost at the start. Dipshit didn't warn anyone.
But my theory is that there are so many rules up there, typically, it was easy to just go along with covid rules.
Going to Groton next month. Made Rez last fall. If you go, hurry. Heard not much left.

(6,399 posts)We got ravaged hard early on from the pandemic due to the Biogen outbreak and we took it seriously because small state and lots of deaths means you knew someone who died more than likely.

(15,090 posts)If I remember correctly, back in February, West Virginia had gotten off to a flying start and was ahead of most other states. I wonder what happened.
Anyone want to place bets on where well see the first major outbreak among the unvaccinated and unmasked? Im betting on a mega church in Texas.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)So they got several eager participants in younger age groups who weren't even qualified yet in most states.
I figured they'd fall down the vaccination lists later. That state is chock-full of Trump supporters.
AZSkiffyGeek
(11,029 posts)I thought there were several states that had hit 70%? What are the metrics being used?
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... whether the percentages are for the entire population or just the people aged 18+.
AZSkiffyGeek
(11,029 posts)And that will definitely be lower since kids under 12 can't get vaccinated.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... for the entire country. People aged 65+ are mostly vaccinated so far, and obviously the higher vaccination states would be even better in general.
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations
% of Population ≥ 18 Years of Age
60.5%, one dose
48.4%, fully vaccinated
% of Population ≥ 65 Years of Age

Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... rates, but every new vaccination will help everyone anyway. If it could reach nearly 100% eventually, which I know is a pipe dream, I'd be even happier!
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... but not yet zero.
Keeping an eye on them might give us a better grasp of "herd immunity" levels.
They're doing the best with vaccinations, using mostly the very effective mRNA vaccines like us and not the less effective traditional vaccines that use inactive viruses like in the country of Seychelles.
Yet even Israel hasn't reached 70% for single doses yet.

(42,770 posts)interesting. And perhaps variants and mutations not as bad as we thought? Should have exploded by now? Or am I naive?
Do you think we've weathered the worst?
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,855 posts)... have been incredible with their effectiveness.
Maybe a variant of the coronavirus spike proteins will come along later that makes the vaccines far less efficient, but those spike proteins also act like keys to enter the sanctum of our cells. So perhaps many such mutations would render a virus useless at using the resources within our cells to replicate in the first place.
I'd prefer to have many more people vaccinated to reduce the probability of a more dangerous variant, which could happen given enough time of the virus' survival.
