https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/05/alabama-lifts-school-yoga-ban-namaste-om-mantra-meditation.htmlPart of the article:
"Under the new law, yoga instructors are barred from using any Sanskrit names for poses and must refer to them using their English equivalent only. There will be no oms in the schoolhouse, as mantras are verboten as is chanting of any kind. In fact, the state Legislature has also banned the use of the salutation namaste altogether. As if that version of yoga werent watered down enough, the state will also require participating students to get a permission slip signed by their parents. The text of said permission slip was included in the bill: I understand that yoga is part of the Hinduism religion. I give my child permission to participate in yoga instruction in school. Good to double-check just to make sure yoga isnt sneaking up on anyone in Alabama."
Words fail me sometimes.

(16,847 posts)Christian prayers being said over the intercom in the morning or teachers talking about the Bible in class. And they don't require permission slips for kids to attend mandatory assemblies in the gym where they drill Christian 'values' into their impressionable minds. I wished so much, back when I was in school, that the principal and teachers who did all that shit to us would get in trouble for it, but nobody apparently said a word. Now, 40 years later, they're still doing the same old shit.

(16,847 posts)someone 'interpreting' what the one spouting gibberish is saying. It's all such a fucking joke, but there are plenty of people who go see that shit every chance they get and they give those preachers gobs of money for the privilege! If the worshipers saw it as a free show, I could accept that, but it's like WWF stuff. I guess that's why their preachers tell them that the tv is evil and they shouldn't watch it. The preachers want all of that money they would be spending on cable!

(23,116 posts)The people I was with kept encouraging me to let go and let God speak thru me so I finally got tired of it and gave them a show. I'm sure I wasn't the only person faking this, one lady was whooping and dancing & another fell on the ground writhing and yelling this awful noise. I started just yelling gibberish and they all got off on it so much, it was funny. As I left them I pointed out that they shouldn't pressure people and because of their pressure I just faked the whole thing. Their mouths fell open as I walked away and they never called me again and I gladly reciprocated by never calling them either. I can't believe I didn't realize what a set up this was.

Sure there are intelligent, educated people in Alabama. To be sure there are intelligent, yet less educated, but tolerant people in Alabama... But, they relinquish control of their governing leadership to the worst among them.

Ok, I guess levitation is out.
(4) All poses shall be limited exclusively to sitting, standing, reclining, twisting, and balancing.
Again, levitation just cant be used.
(5) All poses, exercises, and stretching techniques shall have exclusively English descriptive names.
Wow, way to go maybe now youll understand. Thats gotta be it... unless all sports are required to be exclusively in English
(6) Chanting, mantras, mudras, use of mandalas, induction of hypnotic states, guided imagery, and namaste greetings shall be expressly prohibited.

Updated May 20, 2021; Posted May 20, 2021
By Mike Cason | mcason@al.com
Gov. Kay Ivey has signed into law a bill allowing Alabama public schools to offer instruction in yoga.
The law ends a ban on yoga adopted by the State Board of Education in 1993 because of yogas connections to Hinduism.
Rep. Jeremy Gray, D-Opelika, today thanked Ivey for signing the bill and clearing the way for schools to begin offering yoga as an elective class or activity starting in the 2021-2022 school year. He said some schools are already doing yoga-like activities but use a different name, such as mindfulness movement.
This was the third year for Gray to sponsor the bill. Lawmakers gave it final approval Monday, the last night of the legislative session.
