Bodycam video shows Ronald Greene repeatedly apologizing to Louisiana troopers amid deadly 2019 arre

arrest.

In some of his final moments, Ronald Greene, a Black man who died after leading Louisiana troopers on a high-speed chase in 2019, repeatedly apologized for the ordeal before he was cuffed, Tased, beat and dragged face-down across the pavement, according to body camera footage obtained by The Associated Press nearly two years later.

The three separate clips, totaling a combined two minutes in length, stand in stark contrast to authorities’ initial version of events — that Greene died on impact after a police pursuit the night of May 10, 2019. State troopers initially started to tail the 49-year-old just outside the city of Monroe for an unspecified traffic violation.

Greene did not stop however, sparking the chase authorities went on to claim resulted in his death. State Police later released a one-page statement walking back the story, instead acknowledging that Greene struggled with troopers and died on his way to the hospital after the chase.

This image from video from Louisiana state police state trooper Dakota DeMoss' body-worn camera, shows troopers holding up Ronald Greene before paramedics arrived on May 10, 2019, outside of Monroe, La. The video obtained by The Associated Press shows Louisiana state troopers stunning, punching and dragging the Black man as he apologizes for leading them on a high-speed chase, footage authorities refused to release in the two years since Greene died in police custody.
