This looks like an good attempt to compromise https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/05/21/white-house-republicans-infrastructure/
The exchange occurred during a private meeting earlier in the day between top aides to the Biden administration and about a half-dozen Republicans led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.). The new offer, described afterward by White House press secretary Jen Psaki, appears to mark a decrease from the total $2.2 trillion Biden proposed earlier this spring.
This proposal exhibits a willingness to come down in size, giving on some areas that are important to the president, Psaki said.
But Republicans did not appear immediately swayed by the White Houses new spending target, according to two people familiar with the meeting who requested anonymity to describe a private conversation. One of the sources said the decrease is not as steep as it appears, reflecting efforts by the Biden administration to just shift spending to other legislative packages.

(12,480 posts)Needs to explain to the people republicans are bad people and do not care if a bridge breaks and you die. They don't care about others.
Then Biden should drop the bipartisanship bullshit and just pass it as it originally was written. Change the rules. He could do that.
The republicans are not and don't act in good faith they act like bullies, small children holding thier breath until they get what they want, and will filibuster until the bill dies. We have work to do despite these republican children.
The bill will pass the country needs help.

(12,480 posts)But how much suffering are people going to go through until the Dems realize what they are doing does not work?
They are there to do a job. The republicans are there and undermine their job because of thier sociopathic tendencies and beliefs.
Say you worked for a company that worked for others well being.
Helping desperate suffering people.
You had great ideas that the people desperately needed.
But Everytime you started helping one particular board member continually prevented you from doing what was needed.
How long until you confronted that board member. How long until you publically exposed his nefarious agenda?
How long until you told this asshole he has done enough bullshit.
How long would you let the company be undermined and let help be delayed to desperate suffering people before you tried another way to help people and do your job?
How long is it moral to keep doing what does not work as people suffer and die?
At some point your moral understanding has to grow and change ,or you become complicit in the continuation of the people's suffering.
Biden has to change tactics.

(34,857 posts)I don't understand why you guys don't get it. Manchin has already come out and said he will not support it if it's not a bipartisan bill. Flat out. If Manchin doesn't support it, they can't pass it through reconciliation and it will fail.
So, this entire scenario you built up in your head isn't going to work. Biden knows this.

(12,480 posts)And whatever extra appointments and powers he has. And tell him he won't get them back until he votes like a democrat.
Do the same to Sinema.

(12,480 posts)Process and confront him personally and publically and demand he explain himself.
Give him no quarter. Then tell him he and seneima are the reason important bills that would improve peoples lives don't pass. Lay it on him and make him face it,publically. And call him out about turning repub it would just prove the point.

(34,857 posts)Manchin already said he will not support the bill if it's not bipartisan. So, Biden needs at least one Republican to sign on and he can likely move it via reconciliation - if he doesn't get one Republican, the bill dies.
There is no third option here: he either gets some level of GOP support or he doesn't get Manchin's support.
