to investigate their attempted coup.
Let that sink in!

(21,348 posts)force them to stand on the floor of the Senate and explain why they are anti-democracy.
They can't filibuster a House select committee. I bet Speaker Pelosi has the plans already laid out.
Schumer needs to move this along, one of their tactics is to delay.

(17,918 posts)And what Dem leadership may have wanted all along. And Republicans are giving them political cover to do just that. I'm sure Republicans are smart enough to know that, but have gotten themselves in such a corner they have little choice. The orange lunatic is the one still calling the shots for them.
What I really want is a special consul appointed by Justice who can charge, prosecute and put people in jail, even congress critters.

(21,348 posts)11 hours of Secretary Clinton testifying under oath for Benghazi, that found no wrong doing. Fuck Marco Rubio and his insurrectionist party.
Plus the fact, that for Benghazi, Repukes never offered a bipartisan commission, they went straight for the partisan committee hearings.

(17,918 posts)The commission bill is so watered down as to be completely ineffectual. Republicans can pick whatever nuts they want for their 5 spots and will pack it with lunatics. The Republican vice chair can derail any and all subpoenas and the only way to override their objection is a majority vote of the 10 members. Not going to happen. Dec 31 deadline? If subpoenas are issued and fought, and they will be, it will take longer than that to adjudicate in most cases. And that deadline conveniently turns things off before the 2022 mid terms heat up.
The more I think about it, the more it looks like a trap from Republicans. OK, you don't want a partisan commission, then fine. A special consul, with real "teeth" to investigate, charge and prosecute, will be appointed. They can coordinate the ongoing investigations and start new ones, following this trail right to congressional offices with impunity.

(42,770 posts)Just these things:
1) did trump et al direct anyone to "slow" assistance to Cap police
2) who directed the potential bombing of party headquarters
3) who organized tour of capitol before 1-6
I think rehashing the trump crowd motives is a losing strategy. They will pack hearing with trump followers who had no part in Capitol entry. Also futile is saying trump was to blame for march down there. Of course he was but they will just say political rhetoric as they did in Impeachment.
