Data collected by the legislative-analysis firm Quorum and reported on by Axios found that Cawthorn had missed the highest percentage of votes - 16.2% - of any freshman House member during the 117th Congress. The top five freshmen to miss the most votes are all Republicans.
"To that, I really laugh. It shows how the Democrats feel about the nuclear family in America right now. I was doing the only thing that I find more important than my service in Congress, and that's my service as a husband," Cawthorn told host David Brody when asked about Axios' reporting on his missed votes.
Cawthorn said that "they had the votes pile up" the week he was away for his honeymoon after marrying his wife, Cristina Bayardelle, in his home state of North Carolina in early April, which resulted in him missing out on 15 votes.
"Every single vote that came up was some Democrat garbage, so I was happy to be able to not actually have to vote on those," Cawthorn said. "They're eliminating our voices. They're not allowing us to debate on the House floor. And, I'm telling you, if I had to choose between voting with Nancy Pelosi or spending time with my beautiful wife, I'll choose Cristina every time." .......................................

(15,809 posts)Do other representatives get to take a honeymoon during sessions? That was not a necessary absence because it could be Scheduled during any numerous recess congress has.

............Cawthorn also did not designate another lawmaker to enter votes on his behalf while he was on his honeymoon. Under special COVID-19 procedures, House members can vote by proxy via a colleague..............

(8,332 posts)To the reason that they are not voting is due to the current public health emergency. One would hope that there was no public health emergency on his honeymoon, although, maybe something was caught at the bachelor party if Matty call girl Gaetz was responsible for procuring the talent for the show.

(2,636 posts)The local sheriff and the Henderson Co. GOP bigwigs regret their backing him. He was not their first choice.
NC11 on twitter excoriates him, daily. He won't win again. Democrat Lt. Col. Moe Davis may run again, and already there are multiple GOP challengers for his seat.

(16,862 posts)Fail at meeting the requirements of your job? Blame Democrats for "stacking up votes" when you were dedicating yourself to the "nuclear family". What horse crap! I would be more surprised to see the "party of personal responsibility" actually take on some every now and then.

(8,332 posts)Of the votes were called is because Marjorie Taylor Green was throwing a temper tantrum.

(8,964 posts)wouldn't that actually increase the imperative to show up and vote against them? I am amazed at the flimsy and laughable excuses that wingnut legislators conjure up whenever they find themselves with backs to the wall.

(32,086 posts)Which this twit apparently does as a "fitness influencer." If you look at Simone Biles and other gymnasts, they're built like that, and they don't use steroids. The same goes for women hockey players, skiers, cyclists, etc.
I put on muscle in my thighs fairly easily, even at my advanced age. If I spent the day on a bike, or doing squats with weights, I'd have legs like that, too. Not that I'd want to, since I'm not an athlete.

(2,636 posts)Cawthorn is a pathological liar.
He marrie din December because adding a wife to his federal benefits package in APril would have been too complicated for him.

She's at least his second fiancee. He blamed the first one for his stellar D average in that one semester of junior college.
Funny, but Matt Gaetz proposed in December, before his tawdry personal pedophilia history emerged. Many are saying Cawthorn's "wife" is a beard, too.

Here in Kansas we have little to say about any of that anymore since our party took out a long term Democrat and filled his position with a young, inexperienced guy with a big mouth who has been caught and still believes that revenge porn is OK, hitting your girlfriend is OK etc. Makes me not so very proud of our state Dems and makes me scared of what is next.
We have always had our own problems with these kinds of things, never like this though and it seems like most of the new R's are all just making it up as they go.

During the pandemic in July 2020, Cawthorn chided Democrats, tweeting, "Leaders show up no matter how uncertain the times are. The Democrats are cowards for hiding and not showing up to work. I guess we can label them as 'Nonessential personnel'?"
