Ready. Fire. Aim!
I have noticed that Democrats are usually more straightforward and honest in their intentions than Republicans. Their inclination to honesty and openness does not serve them well in many political circumstances.
For example, the Senate refusal to approve a January 6th Commission. Democrats understand what happened. So do Republicans. If they take the vote now, or even next week, it would probably not be successful.
But events and circumstances change from day to day. Democrats could wait for a more opportune time, rather than take a vote that they know will not succeed.
Patience is a virtue in politics, as in most of life. Most likely a big story will break in the next few weeks that will embarrass the Republicans, or at the very least, generate a "no comment" from them. When the right story falls, that might be a more appropriate time to vote for a Commission.
But, sometimes Democrats are like the old vulture sitting on a dead juniper limb. 'Patience, my ass! I wanna kill something!"

(914 posts)The President was impeached for his role.
There are videos of a violent mob beating police, stealing and photographing things from congresspersons podiums and offices, and chanting hang Mike Pence.
Five hundred arrests.
Supported and funded by major players.
Clear coordination between right wing extremist groups with connections to house members.
There are times when I believe the party should take your advice. This isnt one of them. Votes will not flip due to any new information. The currently known information is damning and overwhelming with respect to the need for a commission.

form a select committee to hold hearings on the traitors' actions on Jan. 6. She might even make it bi-partisan by inviting prominent republicans who are out of office, like Flake and Corker, maybe even Liz Cheney, which will be a nod to traditional republicans.
Madame Speaker knows the importance of not letting the republicans move on from their insurrection. Hearings will happen no matter what McTurtle and the Senate repubicans do. And it'll be timely and help us Dems politically for the '22 elections, which is what the GOP is afraid of.

(111,098 posts)Nancy will request a Select Committee. The Republicans are desperate. Desperate people do desperate things. But they will not escape the truth of January 6th.
They can't wait for the next Republican President, so they can pardon all the criminals that attacked our Capitol. Meanwhile, they will try to delay their jail time.
