New York and Maryland follow Ohio in creating Covid vaccine lottery

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/05/20/us/covid-vaccine-lottery-new-york-maryland-ohio/index.html

(CNN) New York and Maryland both announced lotteries on Thursday for people who get vaccinated against Covid-19, joining Ohio, which last week announced drawings to give away millions of dollars in a bid to boost flagging vaccination rates in the state.

New Yorkers who get vaccinated next week from Monday to Friday will be given a lottery ticket with a chance to win as much as $5 million, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a news briefing Thursday.

And starting on Tuesday, the Maryland Lottery will randomly select a vaccinated Marylander for a $40,000 prize every single day, Gov. Larry Hogan announced Thursday.

The Maryland drawings will be held for 40 days through July 3, and on July 4, a winner will get a grand prize of $400,000, Hogan said.

"So it's a total of $2 million in prize money for a vaccinated Marylander," Hogan said. "Entry is very simple -- all you have to do is get vaccinated for Covid-19 here in Maryland, be a Maryland resident and be 18 or older. Anyone 18 and older who has already been vaccinated for Covid-19 in the state of Maryland, at any time, is also eligible for these prizes and will automatically be entered to win."

"So remember Maryland -- get your shot for a shot to win," Hogan said.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine last week was the first state leader to announce lottery drawings in a bid to get more people inoculated, and vaccination rates have since picked up, the Ohio Department of Health said on Thursday.

Vaccination rates increased in Ohio by 33% after the weekly lottery was announced here, and that's not including the children aged 12+ who became eligible for shots for the first time.

The total lottery amount of $5 million in Ohio amounts to less than $1 for each of the people who've been vaccinated here so far, if it was distributed that way instead.

Still very unlikely, of course, but definitely better odds!

Ohio requires registration for the lottery to participate, and lots of people won't bother. So that improves the odds too.

... that information too, but they chose to have opt-ins here. Maybe because winners here have to agree to have their names publicly released?

COVID-19 vaccine providers in Ohio are required to report patient information into the ImpactSIIS system when the COVID-19 vaccine is administered. If you have received the COVID-19 vaccine in Ohio, your information should be in the system.

I had Moderna, not a single side effect other than a sore arm which literally lasted for 36 hours.

I lifted weights, had a normal workout 48 hours after first shot. Mid 50's here.

Let's put politics aside.

This technology has been in the works for many years.

We kicked the ass of a Killer Global Pandemic in less than a year.

I have family members with Cancer and mRNA technology has possible efficacy in treatment.

I work for a big BioPharma and these people are dedicated, 100%. They live this stuff.

Now we just need to get more people jabbed.

*Science rules!

Inject the RNA in me directly, not an inactive virus with modified DNA that enters my cellular nuclei to create it there! My nuclei work hard enough!

Kidding about that, but I preferred the idea of the RNA never entering the nucleus and how it breaks down relatively soon after helping to create the spike proteins. It makes those vaccines more fragile, thus requiring cooler refrigeration, but my Moderna shots were very fresh when I got them. Manufactured in nearby Bloomington IN.

Nothing against the Germans but Moderna is kinda' the "Patriot Vaccine", made in the USA and all.

Can't help but think that Trump should have enlisted Presidents Obama, Clinton, Carter and Shrub to film PSA's urging people from all sectors of the political spectrum to get jabbed.

For the life of me, I can't understand the anti-vaxxers.

by June 27, drawing held on June 28. No need to enter- the state already has your name if you got vaccinated.

Thirty six $10,000 prizes too along with a handful of scholarships for the 12-17 year old crowd.

The more unvaccinated that we have, the higher the risk of spikes in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Govt. should be using more direct approaches to get more people vaccinated.

Not making it into some stupid promotion or giveaway. People need to take this seriously.

I'm not sure what will work the best, though. It might help if more doctors are encouraged to call their patients about it?
